Description

A motivated, enthusiastic and flexible individual is required to support a young man develop his abilities to his full potential.

Our client is a fit, personable young man presently studying A- levels at college. He is a keen runner aiming to run competitive half marathon's and beyond. He has self-taught computer programming, starting at an early age.


He has Cerebral Palsy, which does not inhibit his physical activities, he requires support around day to day processing, managing time, focusing, switching focus, planning and organising.

With a focus to supporting him in these areas at home, around study but also out and about in the community, facilitation of social opportunities and building of friendships.


You will be required to fully support the client in his physical fitness programme, and in developing his programme with him.

You will need to have the necessary physio/PT based skills to do this and be committed as well as able to train with him - his aspirations are to eventually run a marathon.


Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Implement strategies developed by the therapy team, primarily around his executive functioning difficulties.
  • To be available for initial and ongoing training, supervision and support around these strategies and how to implement them. To record progress as directed by the MDT/Case Manager.
  • Within this framework to use initiative to optimise fun and social opportunities for the client.
  • When working with him to be aware of and respect the wishes, aspirations and ethos of the client and his wider family.
  • Work with client, professionals and family to undertake duties commensurate with the post and as requested by the client, his family, his Multidisciplinary team and Case Manager.
  • To be a professional member of the support team, supporting colleagues as necessary and helping to maintain a positive, vibrant, friendly and supportive working environments.
  • To ensure that colleagues are fully informed of developments and maintain an effective level of communication with the rest of the team.
  • Be aware of issues of safeguarding and alert Case Manager to any concerns regarding the client's safety and wellbeing.
  • Be reliable and punctual; alert the client at the earliest possible opportunity, if unable to attend for work in an emergency or in case of illness.
  • To maintain expected high standards of support and report any breaches in professional practice to the Case Manager.
  • Participate in training, team meetings, supervisions, appraisals and any other meetings called by the Case Manager. You will be have to be available for these when they are held.
  • Be cognisant of responsibilities under the mental capacity act to support the client to work towards full capacity in all aspects of his life, and to liaise fully with the MDT to develop strategies to support the client in any areas where he has yet to achieve capacity.
  • To ensure the individual needs of the client are met at all times.
  • To ensure dignity and respect and privacy are maintained at all times for him and his family.
  • To support the client in all aspects of his physical and educational development at home, or any other setting as directed and appropriate.

General:


  • Ensure that all duties are carried out to the highest possible standard and that the welfare of the client is paramount at all times.
  • In an emergency and in case of illness, to be flexible and supportive.
  • To be open to and willing to obtain additional training and develop your skills
  • To comply with relevant legislation and care plans.
  • To undertake any other related duties commensurate with the general level of responsibility of the post.

Person Specification

  • Be willing not to smoke during your hours of duty.
  • Excellent references and enhanced DBS
  • To partake in training sessions and use new information in your role as Support Worker.
  • Be physically fit so as be able to participate in the client's therapeutic and fun activities.
  • Able to demonstrate a positive interest and attitude to working with the client in regard to his hobbies and interests.
  • Awareness of safeguarding, and act as appropriate when necessary.
  • Able to commit to agreed hours, attending punctually and reliably.
  • Able to display a flexible and engaging approach.
  • Be willing to assist with household tasks and duties.
  • Be able and willing to work using own initiative but also collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Resourceful, selfmotivated and calm.
  • Effective verbal communication skills and good written skills to facilitate the documentation of accurate records.
  • Commitment to be actively involved in regular supervision, appraisal and personal development
  • Good sense of humour, dedication, flexibility, professional, respectful, adaptable.
  • Able to maintain confidentiality.

Job Type:
Part-time

Part-time hours: 6-8 per week


Salary:
£18.00-£19.00 per hour

Expected hours: - 8 per week
