    Job Overview

    This presents an enticing opportunity for a Physician Associate position in our Adult Eating Disorder Outpatients service with a 1-year fixed term pact. The role aims to offer additional medical coverage to fulfill the medical presence demand. The responsibilities involve guaranteeing top-notch patient care consistently. The Physician Associate will be under the guidance of an assigned consultant with frequent meetings to aid ongoing role growth. Moreover, the Physician Associate will participate in regular CPD sessions to support continuous development.

    Main Duties of the Job

    The primary focus will be on delivering clinical work within the Outpatients Department at the Maudsley. Collaborative work with the medical team and other Physician Associates within the service is essential. Additionally, ensuring adherence to QED standards, NICE guidelines, and NHS England by coordinating with community teams for day service admissions and offering support for families and community teams for a smooth transition back to the community.

    Engagement in quality improvement, service innovation initiatives (FREED - early intervention pathway; PEACE - ASD pathway), and research studies is also expected.

    Detailed Job Description and Main Responsibilities

    Principal Duties

    The Physician Associate duties may include, but are not limited to:

    • Practicing under the supervision of a Consultant Psychiatrist
    • Conducting initial psychiatric assessments, patient histories, and physical examinations
    • Establishing differential diagnoses and treatment plans
    • Participating in team meetings and relevant clinical discussions
    • Providing empathetic care and communication to patients and families
    • Responding promptly to health evaluation requests
    • Documenting patient interactions and providing management advice
    • Contributing to discharge summaries and reports
    • Assisting in medical emergencies
    • Collaborating with the healthcare team for patient care
    • Liaising with primary and secondary health providers
    • Supporting health promotion activities
    • Offering support to patients and families
    • Participating in proactive screening and interventions for patient health
    • Collaborating with pharmacy on medication issues
    • Enhancing physical health competencies in mental health staff
    • Performing medical procedures like ECG and venepuncture

    Service Development

    The role involves engaging in research, audit, and improvement opportunities. Responsibilities include disseminating clinical practices, supporting student placements, and contributing to policy development and implementation.

    Qualifications

    Essential Criteria

    • Postgraduate Diploma in Physician Associate studies and registered on the Faculty of Physician Associates Managed Voluntary Register

    Knowledge and Experience

    • Understanding of healthcare sector needs
