Description

At a glance:

  • The budgeted salary range for this role is set at £53,000£80,500
  • This position is a Permanent contractWe know flexible working is important to you, and it is important to us too. The Partnership has adopted a hybrid working approach meaning you'll be able to work a mixture between the office and home based upon your personal needs whilst balancing the needs of the business. The Experimentation team aims for at least 2 days a week in the office to connect and on a more adhoc basis to attend key meetings but again, are flexible on this. The role is based at Victoria.

About the role:

The Experimentation Team at John Lewis exists to help teams make better decisions, faster, through quality Experimentation.

We operate as a Center of Excellence (CoE) and are focused on building the right tools, skills and environment for Experimenters across over 30-40 product teams and beyond to quickly and easily learn by Experimenting.

We don't ideate or create individual Experiments but do consult on them, especially when things get interesting.

We love automation and are passionate about scaling Experimentation within the unique, long running Experiment that is the John Lewis Partnership.

We're doing that by focusing attention in three areas:

  • Platform
  • Building and better integrating Experimentation tooling for teams, reducing friction and creating automation across the entire Experimentation workflow. Ultimately reducing the human cost of Experimentation.

  • Practice

  • Growing the skills and support that we give to our current Experimenters within JL Omnichannel by creating clear Guidelines and Education Resources, supporting teams by being the experts in how to technically run and measure Experiments, running our internal network of Experimentation heroes.

  • Strategy

  • Increasing the ROI from existing Experiments by taking a portfolio view across all Experiments and feeding that insight back to the business, extending Experimentation to new teams

Key Responsibilities:

  • Bring Experimentation at scale to new teams. While we have some very mature teams experimenting, there are also many teams that have significant room to grow. You'll bring your expertise in Experimentation to help onboard these teams to an Experimental way of working. These teams often are those operating under interesting constraints which complicate Experimentation (e.g. In-Store / Contact Center etc.). You'll work with these teams on their experimentation strategy (what to test) and help them execute experiments by delivering "hands on" end to end support.
  • Maximise the learning effects granted to us by our mature Experimentation programme by analysing and reporting meta learnings and sharing insight back with the business and leadership with a focus on understanding ROI and maximising organisational learning
  • Be an evangelist for Experimentation, working towards a cultural change to a more experimental and iterative way of working, within and beyond Omnichannel (e.g. by executing a routine comms strategy / launching and iterating a training scheme / designing and implementing a rewards and incentives scheme for Experimentation)
  • Explore and champion the adoption of novel methods of Experimentation (e.g. Time split experiments / Encouragement designs) to help us solve business problems. Keep up to date with the state of the art in Experimentation and share learnings.
  • Support the Experimentation Practice team to support individual Experiments that are high priority / complexity when extra resources are required.

Essential skills you'll need:

  • Experimentation Strategy
  • You've helped dozens of teams think about and plan experiments, at the most strategic of levels. I.e. which bets should we place? How do we test our riskiest assumption in the cheapest way?

  • Experimentation Design

  • You've designed Experiments for/with many teams. You'll be able to talk about why you recommend certain actions. You're particularly good at helping teams pick the right overall evaluation criteria

  • Experimentation Analysis

  • You'll have helped with the analysis and decision making that follows
  • Able to solve complex problems and take a new perspective on existing solutions.
  • Proven ability to respond to and prioritise changing demands effectively.
  • Ability to balance multiple priorities, stakeholders and timelines.
  • You'll be an adept storyteller, adept at knowing which detail to include and which to leave out. Able to craft simple, compelling, persuasive narratives from complex data.

Benefits of the Partnership and the role:

  • Hybrid Working.

-
  • Full time working holiday entitlement 25 days holiday, plus public and bank holidays
  • Excellent work life balance, including focus on well being and flexible working and our marketing leading equal parenthood leave Policy
  • Defined Contribution pension scheme where your contributions will be matched by the Partnership (up to 8% of pay) and,
