JOB TITLE:
Communications Officer


RESPONSIBLE TO:
Communications & Fundraising Manager


HOURS: 8 hrs weekly (flexible working encouraged)


SALARY:
Pro rata £ £23449


OTHER TERMS:3% Pension Contributions

33 days holiday (including Bank holidays) Pro Rata

You will be a first-rate communicator with a proven track record of delivering effective

communications across the 'mix' - including marketing, PR, digital and social media.

JOB PURPOSE:

To support the Communications & Fundraising Manager in helping the organisation to achieve its mission through communicating and engaging with the community:

  • Raising awareness of Age UK Barnsley's work in the local community and with local organisations.
  • Developing relationships with individual and corporate supporters
  • Encouraging community support through volunteering and fundraising opportunities
with the objectives of increasing local support and donations.

  • Producing high quality communications materials including digital/social media.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


To develop and oversee implementation of our community fundraising and promotional strategy

  • Working with the senior staff team to identify communications and promotional opportunities and develop strategies in these areas.
  • Assist with the development and delivery of our communications strategy to deliver our press and media activity
  • To assist with the design, production and copywriting of all print material
  • Making effective use of shops, website and social media including maintaining website as necessary to promote the organisation and raise funds.
  • Be aware of and respond to national Age UK campaigns

To develop relationships with local organisations and employers

  • Developing and promoting opportunities to support our work
  • Encouraging and supporting local initiatives by individuals, employers and community organisations
  • Assist with the delivery of presentations/talks to local groups
  • Work with colleagues to develop a stakeholder database

To work closely with other staff and volunteers

  • Recruiting and managing communications volunteers
  • Supporting staff to promote their services to clients and volunteers
  • Work with retail managers to develop shop based communications opportunities and campaign materials

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • To participate in training as appropriate, to attend staff training and meetings to upgrade personal knowledge and to pass information to staff for their support
  • To liaise with partner organisations to ensure good relationships
  • To undertake such other duties as may reasonably be required by the Communications & Fundraising Manager

RELATIONSHIPS AND ACCOUNTABILITY

  • The post holder is accountable to, and managed by the Communications & Fundraising Manager
  • The post holder works closely with the Management team to champion communications and promotional work
  • The post holder is expected to conduct themselves in a professional manner.
  • The post requires confidentiality in relation to service users, staff and volunteers
