JOB PURPOSE:

To be responsible for developing and delivering social action services across Barnsley's communities to address social isolation, loneliness and support older people to access services.

Working with older people on a 1-1 basis; supporting existing groups and delivering new groups within the community.

Develop Age Friendly communities that value older people and their experience

Projects Manager


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work to develop and deliver new ways of working to address social isolation in communities across Barnsley in consultation with colleague project Officers and your line manager.
  • Promote and liaise on behalf of the service with the Area Councils, Ward Alliances, Community Groups, other Stakeholders and the public in various ways sometimes giving presentations.
  • Work sensitively with older people on a 1-1 basis, often in their own homes, to provide suitable interventions to address social isolation and loneliness including referring to other services or supporting them to groups and appointments where necessary and appropriate.
  • Ensure correct procedures are being followed to safeguard the health and safety of self, service users, volunteers and staff
  • Allocate clients to an appropriate volunteers for befriending and peer support. Facilitating the matching process once any appropriate training has been completed by the volunteer.
  • Facilitate new and engage existing groups/individuals to deliver social events/groups within their community. This most often involves leading the group activities, buying and presenting refreshments and being able to identify individuals that may need more support and engaging sensitively to arrange this.
  • Work with colleagues, and under the guidance of the Senior Management Team, to raise funds to continue and grow the service and increase support to Barnsley Older population
  • Recruit and manage volunteers to ensure they are fully supported, enjoying, trained and are motivated in their role.
  • Maintain client records and ensure precise service monitoring through a computerised system to enable the information to be used to compose your quarterly report that is produced as a word document. Maintaining client confidentiality and within Age UK Barnsley's policies and procedures
  • Ensure the service is maintained to the highest standards at all times
  • Manage your own time while remaining motivated both in the office, in the community and when working from home
  • Support all ongoing projects as directed by management.
  • Carry out any other duties consistent with the responsibilities of this post as requested from time to time. This may include occasional weekend or evening events.
