    Applications are invited from enthusiastic and highly motivated individuals to join our project team as a Test Lead.

    Genomics is amongst the fastest growing sectors in science and health and is already delivering transformational health care across the country. Our exciting programme is making genetic testing available to mainstream clinicians and offering revolutionary new diagnostics for our patients and their families.

    The North East Yorkshire Genomics Lab Hub has an IT programme to transform the systems used for genomic analysis. The GLH informatics vision is to enable a single virtual laboratory that covers the whole region. Scientists will have access to the tools and data required to perform their jobs, regardless of their physical location. We are currently delivering a shared GLH Laboratory Information System (G-LIMS), and a cloud-based analysis and interpretation platform (A& I Cloud).

    This role will work in our diverse project teams alongside our project managers and subject matter experts from the labs, bioinformatics and IT teams across the laboratories in Newcastle, Leeds and Sheffield. Some travel will be required however, our 3-city structure also offers flexibility for base location.

    Main duties of the job You will:
    • Have significant experience in delivering software testing from development to Go-Live (functional and non-functional) in highly complex technology based products
    • Lead on creation of test strategy.
    • Ensure that functional and non-functional test coverage is adequate to provide no / no-go assurance on software releases.
    • Have oversight of all technical testing activities.
    • Be a point of escalation regarding testing issues.
    • Have experience of functional and non-functional testing in agile and waterfall project delivery contexts.
    • Design, own and maintain a test delivery framework with associated SOPs, templates, scripts and documentation.
    • Pro-actively document and record defects including severity, resolutions and work with our supplier to resolve.
    • Provide mentoring and development to the wider team when required.
    You will bring the below characteristics and experience to the role:
    • Ability to establish and explain test phases and entry/exit criteria to an audience that isn't familiar with technical project testing processes.
    • Have excellent personal, interpersonal, communication and analytical skills, able to engage with stakeholders at all levels.
    • Have experience of Behaviour Driven Development using industry standard tools such as Cucumber.

    • The Test Lead is an integral member of the GMS, creating and delivering against the test strategy for the Genomic LIMS project and Project and Operations
    • The Test Lead is responsible for the creation of the Programme Test Strategy and Test plans in line with Trust Test Policies
    • The Test Lead is responsible for the design, creation and execution of auditable test scripts which fully cover all functional and non-functional requirements with a system under test.
    • The Test Lead will:
      • Produce strategy and testing criteria from complex business requirements and user stories with support from the Business Analyst.
      • Be responsible for both testing directly and working alongside other specialist and non-specialist team members in testing a system.
      • Work with automated and non-automated test techniques.
      • Work directly and communicate effectively with users and stakeholders in order to establish test requirements.
      • Responsible for executing tests within various test cycles including, but not limited to, system and integration tests, regression testing, performance testing and usability testing.
      • Experience of integration systems, the post holder will understand the testing lifecycles system, integration and user acceptance testing.
      • Take initiative and work to deadlines as required.
      • Discuss technical issues with developers as required.
      • Able to provide an overview of potential technical defects and impacts within the various test cycles.
      • Report on progress and issues at required intervals.
      • Participate in requirements and design reviews
      • Provide guidance to the Project Manager regarding the quality of systems under test prior to release.
      • Work closely with users and other IT areas to ensure successful testing as necessary.

    • oDegree or equivalent qualification / experience
    Desirable
    • oCompleted relevant courses oAn ISTQB certificate in Software Testing, equivalent qualification or professional experience.
    Knowledge & Experience Essential
    • oSpecialist knowledge / experience (to post grad level equivalent) gained through formal training in: oSystem / Functional Testing oManual Testing oAutomation Testing oSoftware development lifecycle and how it fits into working in both Agile and Waterfall methodologies oProven ability to work both independently and within a team based environment
    • oTrack record in testing with test automation software
    • oExperience of UAT and Functional test script creation, execution and reporting
    • oExperience in reporting during testing activities including issue progression and delays
    Desirable
    • oExperience of working with both Agile and Waterfall methodologies
    • oExperience of test management software (e.g. Quality Center, ALM, JIRA)
    • oExperience of supporting test processes within or outside of the NHS.
    Skills & Abilities Essential
    • oDemonstrable ability in designing test cases and scripts across an integrated systems environment
    • oAbility to ensure accurate detailed test scenarios and scripts are produced and maintained, and executed in line with entry and exit criteria
    • oAbility to design Integration and Acceptance tests, interacting with support teams and developers to obtain test data
    • oProven ability to use appropriately, technical and 'non-technical' language skilfully to ensure effective communication with users
    • oExcellent and clear communicator both verbally and written
    • oAbility to work cooperatively and productively with others to achieve results within own work area and the broader organisation
    • oThe ability to work closely with suppliers, clinicians, health professionals and patient forums to ensure delivered functionality is aligned to requirements
