    Are you a Band 6 Stroke or Neuro Occupational Therapist looking to take the next step in your career?     The specialist role would suit an Occupational Therapist with a keen interest and clinical experience in stroke, who would like the opportunity to continue developing their specialist clinical skills alongside developing their skills in clinical leadership, team management and service development. The post holder will work across the Hyper Acute & Acute Stroke Services, with close links to our colleagues in the Level 2 rehabilitation service. You will receive regular supervision from the Lead therapist's to support your clinical and professional development. We actively support continuing personal and professional development through an established performance development review (PDR) system, in-service training and external courses. There are also opportunities to undertake formal postgraduate study. Career progression is actively supported and encouraged. Imperial has developed a clinical academic pathway where the benefits of research and evidence-based practice is supported and promoted at all levels of staff from band 5 to 8. This role is a 12 month fixed term contract, and we would be pleased to hear from those who are keen to be seconded from their current posts, either within North West London or beyond. Main duties of the job To be responsible for the provision of highly specialised occupational therapy assessment, treatment and management of patients managed under the neurosciences, stroke and trauma pathways who present as in-patients with a wide variety of neurological management needs. These comprise acute, chronic, complex, disabling and life-limiting conditions. To determine clinical diagnosis and treatment indicated and maintain records as an autonomous practitioner. To ensure a high standard of clinical care for the patients under your management and those of more junior staff providing a comprehensive and appropriate occupational therapy service to neurosciences, stroke and neuro-trauma. To provide leadership to the in-patient neurosciences, stroke and trauma team alongside 4 band 7 neurosciences, stroke and trauma physiotherapists, and the Clinical therapy leads in neurosciences, stroke and trauma. To undertake a significant clinical caseload working as an autonomous practitioner at a specialist level with other health professionals. To be responsible for service development within the team, to implement policy and policy changes within the clinical area in partnership with MDT colleagues. To deputise for the Clinical leads in the speciality. To present a positive and inspirational role model for all team members.     • Professional qualification in Occupational Therapy.
    • HPC registration.
    • Able to communicate complex information verbally and in writing clearly.
    • Evidence of Post-qualification training relevant to specialist area
    Desirable
    • Member of BAOT
    • Practice Placement course
    • Course in prescription of wheelchairs and seating
    Experience Essential
    • Specialist knowledge and application of OT assessments and interventions in neurological settings.
    • Application and interpretation of standardised cognitive assessments. Ability to conduct non-standardised cognitive assessments. Specialist skills in the management and treatment of cognitive impairments following neurological injury
    • Significant relevant, recent clinical experience in the occupational therapy management of patients who have a range of neurological conditions.
    • Recent, relevant work in an NHS environment
    Desirable
    • Previous Band 7 experience in relevant post
    • Experience of using clinical governance framework to monitor and improve quality of patient care
    • Clinical research experience
    Skills/knowledge/ abilities Essential
    • Advanced knowledge of assessment and treatment approaches for the effective management of neurological presentations and conditions.
    • Advanced skills in the appropriate application of a range of techniques and approaches to the management of neurological presentations and conditions
    • Advanced clinical reasoning and problem-solving skills
    • Knowledge of the influence of psychosocial and cultural factors health/illness behaviours
    • Ability to pass on knowledge and skills to others in both formal and informal environments
    • Competent IT skills
    Desirable
    • Knowledge of recent NHS developments and their impact on service provision
    • Advanced computer skills for presentation and data analysis
