Bird & Blend was set up and is run by Krisi and Mike, who met whilst studying Politics (of all things) at university.

Starting off packing tea in their bedroom and attending markets, building Bird & Blend from scratch while staying true to our ethos and values has been Krisi and Mike's passion.

Mission:

At an exciting time to join Bird & Blend, the Head of Retail will be responsible for everything to do with our growing portfolio of bricks & mortar retail stores.

Currently we have 14 sites with intentions to grow this to at least 24 over the next 2 years.

This role will be vital in ensuring that customer acquisition, experience and commercial performance across the business improves as this is rolled out.


Role:
Reporting into our Managing Director and sitting on the senior leadership team, the new role of Head of Retail will be responsible and accountable for delivering on the key commercial objectives of our retail business


This includes:

Customer Experience & Community

  • Maximising the use of our stores as the most important customer acquisition channel
  • Working alongside our wider brand & marketing teams to deliver activity across the physical stores to turn new customers into brand ambassadors.
  • Taking an omnichannel view you will be the champion of our customers in store experience as part of their connection to the brand but work with other stakeholders to deliver projects that improve our customer's experience across all channels and drive LTV


  • Driving customer experience

  • Creating communities and leading the way on what it means to offer incredible customer experiences on an ever changing high street. Arming our people and developing our environments and technology to achieve this aim.
  • Keeping our ESG values at the heart of everything we do within the retail business.

  • Leading the way on what it means to offer incredible retail careers on an ever changing high street. Working on our full employee lifecycle to ensure that we are recruiting, training and supporting incredible people to do incredible things at all stages of their careers.
  • Managing the Retail Area Managers to drive commercial performance and elevate the team experience.
  • Growing and developing the Retail Area Managers encouraging a culture of clear direction and consistency while also empowering them to lead their teams and regions.
  • Identifying training needs across the network, bring knowledge and expertise on how to address and support delivery and roll out.

Commercial

  • Driving commercial performance
  • P&L responsibility and accountability for the commercial performance of the retail business. Responsible for feeding into and delivering on revenue, cost and profit contribution budgets.
  • Developing, leading and supporting our Retail Support Team and Store Managers to deliver on the above objectives alongside ensuring the foundation and operational requirements of a retail business stock management, HR, rotas & scheduling, maintenance, H&S, compliance etc.
  • Proactively review the selling process and identify lost conversion opportunities
  • Working closely with stakeholders across the business, including Directors on new store openings and strategic direction of Retail; People Team on all HR related matters; Operations team on stock & merchandising; Digital & Customer teams on multichannel integration and Finance on commercial performance and budgets.

KPIs
This is a complex role with a large range of responsibilities and metrics.

The key, top level indicators that you will be responsible for are:


  • New customers acquired, other customer level commercial metrics
  • Reviews, Mystery Shops, NPS and other Customer Experience metrics
- eNPS, employee turnover, internal promotions and other Team Experience metrics

  • Revenue, GP, Costs and Contributed Profit of the Retail business
  • Capture, conversion, ATV, data capture and other store level commercial metrics
  • ESG metrics including energy use, waste produced, zero injuries etc.
