  • National Environmental Assessment and Sustainability (NEAS) team and are part of Major Projects and Programme Delivery (MPPD). We lead, drive, and deliver transformative, low carbon programmes and projects designed to protect, balance, and enhance communities and environments.

Reporting to the NEAS Southwest Operational Unit Manager, you will lead a multi-disciplinary team of around 10 environmental professionals that's involved in ground-breaking and award-winning work through effective collaboration across internal departments, the wider Defra group, Statutory bodies, our framework delivery partners, businesses and communities.

The dispersed team is comprised of Environmental Project Managers of diverse professional experience, Landscape Architects and Archaeologists and a Carbon specialist.

Your positive and visible leadership style will motivate and inspire the team to achieve successful environmental outcomes.

With excellent people skills you will provide leadership for your teams' health, safety and wellbeing as well as ensure their personal development.

As part of the role, you will be required to co-locate and work at Environment Agency offices within the Southwest Hub (incl. Bristol, Exeter, Bodmin). You may also be required to attend national meetings in locations such as London, with some overnight stays.
Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do.

You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident.

This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role

  • The team 1
  • The National Environmental Assessment and Sustainability (NEAS) team oversees the effective management of environmental risk on our Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Management (FCERM) projects. We identify and deliver environmental consents, approvals and environmental enhancements that leave a better place. Our NEAS Hub Teams are responsible for the input of high quality environmental and sustainability advice to the Integrated Delivery Teams for each Delivery Hub.

  • Have effective communication skills in a hybrid working setting
  • Be able to demonstrate leadership to deliver outcomes through others
  • Have experience of influencing others to achieve outcomes
  • Have experience of supporting individuals through change
Desirable

  • Have an understanding of project and programme management
  • Have an understanding of the environment and sustainability sector
A driving license is also required.
