We are currently recruiting a
Production Lead (Manufacturing Cell Leader) to join
Operations due to an increase in manufacturing requirements.


You will be responsible for overseeing the production area to ensure that, output and KPI's are achieved and reported, working to agreed production plans.


You will manage operators working in your area of responsibility, ensuring safe systems of work and quality standards are achieved at all times, whilst ensuring efficiency targets are met.


You will ensure compliance with all company procedures and thereby ensuring the health, safety and welfare of all persons in their charge and others who may be affected and to demonstrate and drive a continuous improvement approach to Health & Safety.


You will be accountable for successful leadership of the team, following the appropriate HR processes and procedures; recruitment, training, performance management, absence etc.


The responsibilities of the role are (but not limited to):

  • Ensure all employees are inducted and trained by appropriate means/resources to achieve competency in Safety, Quality and Productivity.
  • Review and process risk assessments and their scheduling
  • Identify and implement where possible, improvements to drive efficiency gains.
  • Communicate with operators regarding company issues using the Team Brief and toolkit process.
  • Daily presentation of a summary of area performance over the past 24 hours, following a set SQDCP agenda.
  • Supervise and manage your assigned shift, including performance checkin conversations and the production of shift / daily / weekly / monthly reports highlighting issues and successes, where required.
  • Carry out Audits on each building/bay under their Team's control
  • Lead and drive continuous improvement activities e.g. Lean Conversion events and statistical methods in production/problem solving.
  • Responsible for compliance with all company Health and Safety procedures thus ensuring the health, safety and welfare of all persons in their charge and others who may be affected by their activities for which they are responsible, and to demonstrate a commitment to health and safety.
  • To follow the expected behaviours, as laid down in the company Code of Conduct.

MCL Person Specification:


  • Right to live and work in the UK, with ability to obtain SC level clearance (5 years British residency) required
  • Experience of supervising and leading a team within a manufacturing environment i.e. defence, food production, retail manufacturing, would be advantageous
  • Level 4 Certificate / Diploma 'A' level equivalent, or greater would be beneficial in engineering or science discipline
  • Experience of dealing with people issues
  • Demonstrate a basic understanding of Process Instructions (SoPs), Risk Assessments, COSHH and Manual Handling
  • Experience of dealing with people issues
  • Ability to wear full PPE, required for the role
  • Proficient in MS Office and other computer systems
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to prioritise workload and time management
  • Experience working as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Detailed knowledge of Safety inspections procedures is advantageous
