Temporary Accountant required

Monmouth area

Ongoing temporary assignment

Salary of £15 - £17 per hour plus holiday pay

I am recruiting for a temporary Accountant to join a 3rd sector organisation in Monmouth. The assignment will be for approximately 6 months; however, this could be extended.


Reporting into the Finance Manager the main duties of the role will be to assist the Management Accountancy Team Manager in the production of accurate and reliable financial data for senior finance officers and Members.

The successful applicant will alsoassist in Annual Revenue Budget preparation as well as management accountancy services to revenue and capital budget holders.


Main duties of the role will include -:

  • To assist in the co-ordination of the annual revenue budget setting process for all revenue budgets
  • To assist in the revenue and capital budget monitoring process
  • Production of monthly financial information for revenue budget holders, Directorate Management Team and Corporate Management Team.
  • Management of budget (forecast) reprofiling and variance analysis with revenue and capital budget holders;
  • Meetings with all budget holders
  • Reconciliation of updated ledger information to reports and review of consistency of comments provided as part of monthly variance analysis.
  • Production of budget virement or additional budget requests.
  • Timely notification to Team Manager, Section Heads, Senior Finance Officers and Directorate Heads of material under/overspends and reporting on corrective action as directed.
  • Provision of support and training to senior officers and revenue budget holders as necessary.
  • Assisting in the management of the integrity of financial data held on the financial ledger system.
  • Assisting in the coordination, review and monitoring of yearend adjustments made by budget holders per the yearend revenue and capital closure process.
  • Assisting in the completion of all statutory and other statistical financial returns prepared.
  • Assisting Grant Officers in the completion of interim and final grant claim submissions.
  • Assisting in the review of all grant submissions, claims and returns, ensuring adherence to the
  • Attendance at internal and external officer meetings as required by the Directorate Management Accountancy Team Manager.
  • To actively support and implement the principles and practice of equality of opportunity as laid down in the Equal Opportunities Policy.
  • A proven record of achievement academically, possessing AAT or part CCAB qualified.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the work of local government and the current agenda to which it works.
  • A minimum of two years' experience of budget setting, management accounting, and accounts closure in a local government environment.
  • A selfmotivated person possessing the ability to organise themselves and other staff under pressure to achieve deadlines to a stated timetable.
  • Good interpersonal, oral and communication skills are a prerequisite of the post, including persuasive skills and conveying technical accounting issues to finance and nonfinance staff within the Authority.
  • The ability to work as part of a team and to supervise junior staff members.
  • Able to demonstrate a commitment to equal opportunities principles and practice.
