    Description of Principal Duty or Responsibility

    • Manage the school meals catering operation.
    • Meet performance targets set for the service in terms of labour, food costs, stock control and service quality.
    • Skilled cooking duties connected with the full range of meals provided.
    • Menu planning, portion control and supervision of food service. Monitor the production of food, ensuring consistent quality.
    • Operation of a computerised school meals administration system.
    • Ensure compliance with legislation and school/council policies and procedures.
    • Administration duties e.g. stock sheet, time sheets and various catering returns.
    • Supervision of other employees, including allocation of duties, work rotas, appraisals and training.
    • Supervision and control of hygiene, health & safety, including assistance with cleaning and washing up when necessary.
    • Manage the service within the allocated budget and monitor the financial position of the kitchen on a weekly basis, balancing and reconciling cash/income.
    • Promote the schools meals service to generate income.
    • Manage the tuck shop
    • Transportation of meals to another site if required.
    • Security of the kitchen and its surrounds.
    • Setting up and clearing down kitchen and dining room.
    • Liaise closely and regularly with the Headteacher on the catering service provision and other bodies as required e.g. School Governors and PTAs.
