The Role

The role as a Consumer Policy & Enforcement Officer is as varied as it is rewarding.

You will play a key part in ensuring that airlines uphold passenger rights when flights are delayed or cancelled by ensuring equal opportunities and fair treatment, includingfreedom of movement, freedom of choice and non-discrimination.

A typical day will usually mean you're juggling and prioritising various tasks and projects.

Tasks will include managing their relationship with two external alternative dispute resolution bodies, building collaborative relationships with the major playersin the aviation industry, responding to complaints and letters from MPs, advising colleagues - whether internally or in Government - on issues, and assisting in individual compliance and enforcement cases.

You'll also be responsible for working on variousprojects aimed at either identifying breaches or potential breaches of consumer protection law or driving improvements across the industry.

Additionally, you may be involved in developing the CAA's policy position on consumer issues, particularly on alternativedispute resolution in the aviation sector.


To perform the role, you must be passionate about consumer issues, and driven by the desire to make a difference and improve passengers' experiences in aviation and uphold their rights.

You'll already have, or be able to quickly acquire, a good understandingof the legal framework, including guidelines and relevant case law.

You'll also need a methodical and accurate approach to your work, be articulate, and have strong drafting skills.


The CAA deals with diverse stakeholders, including the public, Government and industry, so it is vitally important that you're a strong and confident communicator.

Success within this role relies upon building and maintaining strong, long-lasting relationshipsand partnerships that allow them to effectively deliver on behalf of the consumer.

Occasional travel to restricted sites, e.g. airports, airline offices or government facilities will be expected for this role.

Some of these locations may have limited accessibility and reasonable adjustments will be considered on a case-by-case basis soas to enable you to perform your role.

They will also work with location hosts/owners where possible to ensure accessibility is made possible for you.

However, the majority of the role can be conducted from either their offices in Westferry Circus, AviationHouse or from home.

In instances where potential physical barriers (or other special educational needs and learning disabilities) are identified, and where practicable, they are more than willing to provide any direct support as well as explore any changesto processes, policies or procedures that are deemed necessary to enable all activities for all participants.

  • Ability to draw insight from structured and unstructured data and develop robust conclusions.
  • Selfmotivated and able to take initiative where necessary and be confident in communicating with all levels of seniority.

  • Articulate with excellent written skills.
  • Existing or ability to quickly acquire, a good understanding of the legal framework, including guidelines and relevant case law.
