Reed Secure are working with a notable Law Enforcement Organisation, they are seeking 5 career administrators to join the Right of Access Team and assist with the processing of Data Access Requests made under the Data Protection Act.

This is not a standard administration role.

A DPA Caseworker is responsible for the processing of these requests from start to finish, locating and retrieving any relevant documents and redacting those documents using exemptions under Data Protection Actand then providing disclosure to the applicant.

The caseworker will also be responsible for liaising with the applicants and dealing with any subsequent queries.

Training is provided on the use of the correspondence system and base understanding of DPA. Learning is through feedback provided by managers.

It is important to note this is a highly pressurised environment with a continuous turnover of requests you willbe expected to deal with.


This is a hybrid position with the office being based in Sidcup, you will be expected to travel to either Hendon or Marlowe House to collect and photocopy files that ordered as and when required.

They may also have to attend meetings as and when requiredin other police buildings. Hourly rate rises from £11.05 to £16.68 after 12 weeks.

Below is a list of some of the caseworkers' responsibilities in more detail:

  • Uses specialist DPA knowledge to make informed decisions in relation to the disclosure
  • Considers and applies exemptions to documents and makes riskbased assessments for disclosure on information located.
  • Ensures the processing of requests are completed
  • Searches and examines police systems to locate relevant data/documents. Identifies and utilises appropriate information sources.
  • Engages with officers and staff of various ranks to gather information in scope of the request and provide DPA advice to them with any concerns they have of the disclosure taking place.
  • Reviews and makes decisions about disclosure on investigations ranging the entire spectrum of policing, such as Fraud, Murder, Kidnap, Anti-Terrorism and many more complex and sensitive investigations.
  • Liaises with applicants on progress of requests.
  • Redact's documents that are paper based or digital (i.e CCTV)
  • Manages a large workload with varying deadlines
  • Utilises IT systems such as word, excel and outlook to communicate, organise, track deadlines and produce reports or statistics where necessary
  • Attends regular team meetings

Skills & Knowledge

  • Basic knowledge of Data Protection Acts 1998, 2018 and UK GDPR
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills
  • Ability to use MS Word and Excel
  • Knowledge of MPS systems like CRIS, CRIMINT, IIP, EAPS etc (training can be given)
  • Knowledge of MPS units and departments (training can be given)
  • Resilience and ability to work under pressure
  • Ability to plan, organise and prioritise work
  • Ability to pay attention to detail
  • Ability to look at the bigger picture when dealing with complex and sensitive cases
  • Ability to communicate clearly and articulately both in oral and written form.
  • Actively seeks to learn new things on own initiative
  • Takes responsibility for own time and effectiveness.
