    Job summary

    An exciting opportunity has arisen for the appointment of dynamic motivated nurses to join our existing band 6 team on J54 the General Intensive Care Unit at St Jamess Hospital Leeds. As part of the CSUs overall vision we aim to provide the best outcomes in the safest environments with outstanding patient and staff experience.

    J54 is a fast paced and busy 23 bedded multi-specialty ICU providing high quality care for Level 3 and Level 2 patients. J54 provides specialist care for respiratory, general surgical, Renal and Liver transplant patients.

    Main duties of the job

    The successful candidate will be expected to work clinically within the multi-disciplinary team, maintain high standards of practice while supporting staff on a shift-by-shift basis and provide clinical leadership in decision making.

    Due to the unique specialist care that is required for effective and safe patient care, the post holder must be able to respond robustly and timely to the ever-increasing demands and challenges that our critical care units (and wider CSU teams) bring. This includes supporting and mentoring our newer and more junior team members who may not always have experience in critical care.

    About us

    Adult Critical Care consists of 5 critical care units, 3 at Leeds General Infirmary (General Critical Care, Cardiac Critical Care, and Neurosurgical Critical Care) and 2 at St James Hospital (General Critical Care and Surgical- Oncology Critical Care).

    J54 General Critical Care

    J54 General Critical Care is 23 bedded a multi-specialty unit providing critical care bed for Level 3 and Level 2 Critical care patients. J54 provides specialist care for respiratory, general surgical and Liver transplant patients

    The Adult Critical Care CSU is a fast paced and busy environment in which to work. As part of the CSUs overall vision we aim to provide the best outcomes in the safest environments with outstanding patient and staff experience, sustainably.

    Due to the unique specialist care that is required for effective and safe patient care, the post holder must be able to respond robustly and timely to the ever-increasing demands and challenges that our critical care units (and wider CSU teams) bring. This includes supporting and mentoring our newer and more junior team members who may not always have experience in critical care.

    Therefore, in order to be considered for this role, all applicants must be enrolled with a start date in place or be in possession of a post graduate certificate in critical care (steps 2/3 or equivalent course relevant to specialty), be educated to degree level, and be able to demonstrate recent extensive experience within the specialty, in particular caring for and managing the critically unwell patient who requires level 2 and level 3 care. A recognised teaching qualification is desirable.

  • Registered Nurse (RN Adult for adult clinical areas or RN Child for childrens areas (Level 1 or 2)
  • Post graduate certificate in critical care (Steps 2/3 or equivalent course relevant to specialty)
