    Job Title: Medicines Management Pharmacy Assistant at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

    The Pharmacy Department at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has three vacancies for Medicines Management Pharmacy Assistants.

    If you have a level 2 Certificate in the Principles and Practice for Pharmacy Support Staff, you will start on a Band 3 pay scale. If you don't have the certificate, don't worry! We provide on-the-job training and support to help you obtain the qualification and progress to the Band 3 pay scale.

    As a Medicines Management Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians to deliver dispensary and ward-based pharmacy services, ensuring patients receive their medications promptly and safely.

    Main Duties of the Job:

    • Check the suitability of patients' own medicines for use in the hospital
    • Order medicines for patients during their hospital stay
    • Dispense medicines
    • Transfer medicines between the pharmacy and wards
    • Collaborate with discharge facilitators and nursing teams to assist patients returning home
    • Manage housekeeping tasks and ensure safe storage of medicines
    • Provide information on medicines and pharmacy services to patients and nursing staff

    Working hours are between 8:00am and 7:00pm, Monday to Friday, with occasional weekend and bank holiday shifts. Our aim is to provide compassionate care to every patient, and you'll be part of a friendly team that values patient focus, mutual support, and continuous improvement.

    Key Responsibilities Include:

    • Reviewing pharmacy work queue to ensure efficient medicine supply
    • Dispensing inpatient medicines and managing resupply during their stay
    • Assessing patients' own medicines for suitability
    • Liaising with discharge facilitators for patient discharge planning
    • Conducting housekeeping tasks and managing stock levels
    • Managing missed dose situations and providing patient information

    Qualifications & Education:

    Essential:

    • 2 GCSE Passes Grade C or above (Maths and English)

    Desirable:

    • 4 GCSE Passes Grade C or above (Maths, English & Science)
    • Level 2 Certificate in the Principles and Practice for Pharmacy Support Staff or equivalent
    • Leadership/Management Certificate

    Knowledge & Experience:

    Essential:

    • Teamwork experience
    • Computer skills and good communication abilities
    • Knowledge of Health & Safety regulations

    Desirable:

    • Experience with EMIS (Ascribe) and Pharmacy IT systems
    • Supervisory experience and understanding of stock control systems
