    Job description Full Time, Fixed Term for 12 months with possibility of extension.

    We need a motivated and experienced audio digitisation engineer for the development year of our National Lottery Heritage Fund supported project Sounds of the South West.

    The aim of this fixed-term, one-year post is to produce archival quality digital transfers of audio material to international standards and specific targets.

    The post holder will also provide training in identifying and caring for audio formats for project partners around south-west England.

    The project will be led by Bristol Archives in conjunction with Archives South West (the regional network of local authority archives) and heritage organisations across south-west England.

    If this development year is successful, it can unlock a further three years of funding for continued audio digitisation and engagement work.

    As part of a small project team, you'll be key to digitising, and so helping to preserve, rare, at-risk and unique audio recordings from archival collections across south west England.

    You'll c reate audio files and associated technical metadata for preservation and access from a range of current and legacy audio formats, ensuring the highest quality transfers are obtained.

    And, as an experienced communicator, you'll provide relevant training to heritage professional.

    You'll hold a relevant degree, or equivalent level qualification, or be able to demonstrate equivalent knowledge and understanding gained through experience of audio digitisation engineering.

    You have significant expertise in using a range of audio software and hardware to create archival standard digital surrogates or audio recording.

    You are familiar with using a range of obsolete playback equipment and audio carriers.

    You apply your attention to detail and quality control skills to produce consistently high work.

    You have significant experience in creating and editing metadata relating to digital resources and a solid knowledge of archival audio metadata standards.

    You'll be willing to travel around the project area to deliver in-person training.

    Experience in preparing and delivering training and in mentoring learners and networking with peers and specialists to share expertise and knowledge.
