Description

Salary:
£50,702 to £56,336 per annum (dependent on skills and experience). A Specialist of Allowance of up to £5000 per annum is also available for this role.

Hours:
Full time.

The UK Astronomy Technology Centre (UK ATC) is the UK's national centre for the design and production of leading edge astronomical instrumentation and systems.

We have a friendly and flexible work environment, on a beautiful site combining the historic RoyalObservatory Edinburgh architecture with state-of-the-art modern laboratories.


Here at UK ATC we now have an opportunity for an experienced electronics engineer to lead the UKATC electronics group.

You will be responsible for the overall leadership and management of the electronics group, ensuring good engineering principles and procedureswithin the group.

You will have a leadership role in delivering our programme and developing our future strategy.


The group is a small team of engineers and technicians who are responsible for design and manufacture of all of the electronics in our delivered instruments.

In addition to line management, resource allocation and control of quality you will work acrossa range of projects, designing instruments for major observatories, such as Extremely Large Telescope (ELT) of the European Southern Observatory (ESO).

Person Specification

Essential

Significant demonstrable experience leading project teams
Experienced people manager including staff development and recruitment
Knowledge of infrared and/or optical detectors and readout electronics
Excellent problem-solving skills
Excellent communication and negotiation skills
Willing to travel within UK and abroad
Knowledge of relevant electrical and electronics standards
Desirable

Good working knowledge of PLC based motion control
Track record of strategic development and winning new work
Experience with relevant CAD tools
A scientific research background would be useful but is not essential
