    Risk Advisor

    Job Summary

    In this crucial role, you'll provide support to strategic leadership that sets our direction for how we manage corporate risk in the People directorate and safety and wellbeing as an organisation. That means advising the People Directorate Corporate risk owners on corporate risk management, providing reassurance to relevant committees and helping our safety and wellbeing management team develop strategies and programmes for Health safety and wellbeing across the organisation.

    Overall, your work will help us become a stronger organisation and in turn improve outcomes for patients across the UK.

    As you support colleagues with corporate risk management, safety and wellbeing across NHSBT, you'll work with a wide variety of colleagues across the organisation in different roles and management positions. Gaining access to a wide variety of mangers and strategic leaders from who you will have opportunity to learn will support your development into a potential leader yourself. Beyond this, you will help create wider cultural change and have opportunities to sit on various strategy groups within NHSBT.

    Main duties of the job

    As a Risk Advisor, your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting the People Directorate, and its departmental managers, with compliance requirements as per ISO3100 (Risk Management), Orange Book Risk Management Standards SO22301 (Business Continuity), ISO45001 Health safety and wellbeing management standards, Department of Health & Social Care (DHSC), Care Quality Commission (CQC), Medicines and Healthcare Regulations Authority (MHRA), and other monitoring bodies to ensure delivery of NHSBT's governance objectives ensuring that best practice is undertaken, monitored and evaluated.
  • Supporting the People directorate and departmental managers to make effective risk assessments and risk management decisions by identifying risks, controls, and deficits supporting managers in the development and monitoring of action plans.
  • Supporting the People directorate and departmental managers with embedding and maintaining effective governance and reporting around, health safety and wellbeing resilience and risk which includes, but is not limited to, co-ordinating the review and response to Health safety and wellbeing and/or risk incidents, monitoring and reviewing implementation of the Risk Management, Health safety and wellbeing strategies, collaborating with colleagues within the department, wider organisation to implement and monitor policies and procedures to ensure best practice and regularly inputting new and updating existing risks in the online risk management system Pentana.
  • Supporting the annual review of the risk management and health safety and wellbeing, frameworks to assess the effectiveness and maturity of each area and participate in the development of a plan to ensure continuous improvement.
  • You will be required to travel and spend time away from base, which will involve working irregular hours and overnight stays when required, with prior notice.

    About You

    Experience and Knowledge

  • Good understanding of Health safety and wellbeing management, and risk management accreditation standards and the regulatory frameworks applicable to NHSBT, including relevant ISOs for Health safety and wellbeing, and/or risk management standards such as risk management requirements enforced by regulators (i.e. Health and safety Executive, Care Quality Commission (CQC) etc).
  • Demonstrable experience of working within either the field of health safety and wellbeing and/or risk management preferably within the public sector. Experience of planning over short-, medium- and long-term timeframes and adjusting plans and resource requirements accordingly.
  • Proven experience of identifying performance trends and root causes of performance issues. In-depth knowledge of performance evaluation and improvement techniques. (i.e. balanced scorecards)
  • Experience of working collaboratively forming effective partnerships with staff of all grades, including senior managers and clinicians across all a public health care or public sector organisation.
  • Experience of using database/spreadsheet software for analysis and manipulation of complex data and production of accurate reliable and relevant results.
  • Experience of both designing training programmes and delivering training.
  • Experienced in co-ordinating, monitoring, and managing projects and delivering change.
  • Broad understanding of the NHS and wider healthcare community.
  • Understanding of relevant UK legislation e.g. HS&W regulations, Data Protection Act and Freedom of Information Act.
  • Qualifications and Training

  • Degree in relevant subject or equivalent experience
  • Post Grad qualification in relevant subject or equivalent experience in Health Safety and Wellbeing and/or risk management
  • Demonstrates commitment to own continued professional development (CPD)
