    Job summary

    The Podiatry Service is looking for a motivated, well-organised individual to take on the role of Team Lead in one of our four locality teams. This post is open to internal or external staff looking to develop their career into a management post, or current managers looking for a new challenge.

  • Main duties of the job

    Team Leads play an important role in the days to day delivery and governance of the service, supporting staff well-being alongside being involved in staff development and service redesign and development.

    As well as the Team Lead, directly managing a team of staff based in a locality, the role is combined with a speciality focus dependant on the individuals clinical skillset. The individual will work to provide clinical expertise in their field to Band 6 specialists, alongside clinical support and CPD to the wider team of Podiatrists. The Team Lead will be responsible for monitoring and reviewing their speciality pathways and processes to ensure a quality service for patients, with the assistance of the wider management team.

    Job responsibilities

    Please note for this role you will be required to travel independently around the county meeting strict time deadlines. You will need to hold a full UK driving licence* and have use of a vehicle. You cannot use public transport for this role as this is not a reliable form of transport and will not allow you to meet service needs.     To be responsible for the assessment diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation of Podiatric care to a variety of patients with specialised complaints who may also have a wide range of clinical needs including:

  • High Risk Diabetes
  • Muscular Skeletal Conditions
  • Chronic disease Rheumatoid Arthritis
  • Vascular problems
  • Wound management/tissue viability
  • Terminally ill patients
  • To have responsibility for the planning and development of aspects of specialised care in their jurisdiction.
  • In collaboration with the service lead and other leads, to assist in the drafting of protocols, development of audit tools and liaison with multi-professional teams.
  • To provide updates when requested across podiatry and specialised services to staff, in relation to new developments within the field.
  • To participate in education programmes for appropriately qualified staff and students of approved schools of Podiatric Medicine. To encourage individual development in the assessment and diagnosis of, and selection of interventions for patients with specialised pathology, running rotation clinics for staff as required. This will ensure the department maintains the highest levels of skills and competencies for this work.
  • To attend postgraduate course and conference, as appropriate, to maintain and update knowledge to the highest level.
  • To support junior staff where necessary to ensure standards are met.
  • To review the appropriateness of patient and health education information within the specific work area.
  • To attend staff meetings and play an active role in the operational and strategic management of the service.
  • To be responsible for the assessment of new patients with subsequent production of individual care packages and treatment plans, including the provision of appropriate footcare education.
  • To identify when patients require the intervention of other professionals and/or departmental specialists by following agreed referral pathways acute woundcare, biomechanical evaluation or surgical intervention.
  • To be actively involved in the development and implementation of departmental procedural guidelines.
  • To be responsible for the maintenance and security of stock, continuously reviewing the formulary of devices and updating to maximise effectiveness and cost-efficiency.
  • To follow departmental clinical guidelines but have the discretion to interpret and make own clinical diagnosis and decisions within professional boundaries.
  • To be flexible and provide cover for other Podiatrists at short notice or during periods of absence.

    Person Specification

    Education / Qualifications

    Essential

  • HCPC registered Podiatrist.
  • Podiatry diploma / degree.
  • Local anaesthetics certificate.
  • Evidence of continued professional development in relevant areas.
  • Desirable

  • Accredited post registration training in relevant areas.
  • Masters or equivalent level of study.
  • Experience

    Essential

  • Broad based experience working in isolation and as a team member including treatment and management of patients on a regular basis.
  • Experience of development of departmental protocols.
  • Experience of managing staff.
  • Evidence based approach to specialist area.
  • Desirable

  • Able to supervise and teach on a formal/informal basis.
  • Experience of working in an MDT environment.
