    Job summary

    We are excited to offer the opportunity for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to become a Bank Driver Team as part of our CHoC driving team in Kendal. The role requires you to maintain the smooth running of the vehicles and the site.

    Main duties of the job

    To provide aprofessional driving service for medical personnel travelling to meet the needsof patients requiring Out Of Hours medical attention. Thepost holder will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team situated at one ofCHoCs bases in Cumbria.

    Thedriving team is an integral part of the CHoC system ensuring clinicians, GPs,Nurse Practitioners and Nurses, reach our patients safely throughoutCumbria. Drivers on shift work closelywith the Control Room Supervisor and Despatcher, and the clinician toprioritise visits and guarantee efficient and effective delivery of care. Our 4x4 vehicles are safe and robustproviding a professional driving provision in all weather conditions. Effective communications on shift areparamount to ensure an efficient service is maintained.

    Job responsibilities

  • Ensureyou are fit to drive and meet all driver authorisation requirements throughoutyour employment. In line with the DVLAs guidance for drivers 70 and over, CHoCwill require any applicant who meets this criteria to undergo a drivermedical/sight test (DVLA Standard) as part of the recruitment process.
  • Readand be fully aware of the content of the Driver Handbook.
  • Maintainfull responsibility for the vehicle, contents and passengers whilst on duty.
  • Ensureall technology is fully functioning and fully charged at the start of shiftregularly checking the items are stored safely, charged and updated wherenecessary.
  • Carryout thorough pre-shift checks, equipment checks and restock if required.
  • Assistin the set-up of the clinical rooms at the beginning of shift if required. You may also be required to check the roomsat the end of shift and ensure CHoC equipment has been returned to store.
  • Drivethe doctor, nurse practitioner or nurse to home visits, meeting the needs ofpatients in the out-of-hours period.
  • Ensurethe rules of the road are followed, utilising all available vehicle and TomTomsystems, to ensure safe driving is maintained throughout.
  • Duringshift answer and make calls to the control room by various communicationmethods, always remember the legal position whilst driving.
  • Assistin completing patient contact forms where applicable for control and doctor,nurse practitioner or nurse in the event of technology failure.
  • Assistthe clinician as and when necessary including assisting with equipment,chaperoning (as per policy), communications with control.
  • AlertingEmergency Services in the event of an emergency, following guidance from theclinician.
  • Monitorthe prescription pad for the vehicle following the CHoC Prescription guidance. You may also be required to assist in thetopping up and management of printer prescriptions following guidance.
  • Assistin the transfer, countersigning and transport of Controlled Drugs.
  • Ensureeffective handover with the oncoming shift (incl. driving colleagues,clinicians and control room supervisor).
  • Carryout post-shift checks and restock if required.
  • Followup Left Equipment when not required for visits.
  • Ensureclear and concise communications with your Team Leader are maintained throughvarious communication methods including where appropriate the sitecommunications log.
  • Duringshift, after consultation with the control room Supervisor, travel and workacross the County wherever and whenever needed to meet the demands of theservice.
  • Assistthe team Leader in the day to day management and maintenance of the base.
  • Regularlylog onto your CHoC email account and familiarise yourself with the CHoC website(in particular the Staff Section).
  • Tocarry out any other reasonable duties in departments/locationsas and when required, subject to training and capabilities.
  • Toadhere to all CHOC Policies and Procedures.
  • Participateand ensure own on-going development, maintaining compliance for mandatorytraining.
  • Tomaintain a high level of confidentiality and comply with the Data ProtectionAct. Be aware of the nature ofinformation dealt with and work in a manner which ensures confidentiality andsecurity at all times.

  • Full driving licence
  • Maths and English grade C or equivalent
  • Desirable

  • Advanced driving qualification

  • ECDL or equivalent

    Essential

  • Experienced driver with a checkable record (familiarity session in the CHoC vehicle will be arranged prior to confirming offer)
  • Experience of vehicle checks - vehicle management- basic knowledge of car maintenance
  • Basic computer skills
  • Thorough local knowledge of the area

  • Some experience of driving automatic vehicles
  • Good understanding of navigation systems (both inbuilt or supplementary Tom Toms)
  • Understanding of tracking systems
  • Understanding of job order systems fleet systems
