    Description

    Job description

We are really pleased to offer this excellent opportunity for an ethnographer to join our team in the Florence Nightingale Faculty of Nursing, Midwifery & Palliative Care to carry out National Institute for Health Research funded research in the area of maternity and neonatal care.

The CORE study is a mixed methods study that will explore and enhance the implementation and impact of maternity and neonatal training in England as it seeks to reduce variation in maternity and neonatal care. The study will have a particular focus on ensuring future training initiatives meet the needs of service users including those at greatest risk of poorest perinatal outcomes.

The study begins on the 1st of September 2024 and will last for 24 months. During this time, several work packages will run concurrently, with findings integrated and then analysed using participatory methodology. This will include, ethnographic research exploring the local implementation of multi-professional competency training in maternity and neonatal units. You will be responsible for the delivery of the ethnographic research and you will also contribute to a range of tasks related to the study set up, PPI/staff engagement activities, organising participatory forums and developing implementation strategies. There will be opportunities to develop skills and knowledge in these areas.

The successful candidate will be self-motivated, have excellent organisational skills and attention to detail. You will have expertise in conducting ethnographic health service research and you will be able to work well both with others including patient participants and multi-professional co-investigators. The postholder will work under the supervision of Principal Investigator Dr Rebecca Whybrow. You will be required to travel to maternity and neonatal units outside of London and the South East and we are therefore open to considering applications from researchers living in the Midlands and North of England. The post holder also will have the opportunity to work as part of King's hybrid working model, where you can work between your home, the research sites (or the office) throughout your working week.

This post will be offered on a fixed-term contract.

This is a part-time post - 80% full time equivalent.
