  • 2 paid volunteering days plus 1 team volunteering day per year
  • Learning and development hub where you can access a wealth of resources
  • About the Team

Surrey Arts is the Arts Service for Surrey County Council. We are the lead delivery organisation for the music education hub. We provide music lessons, instrument hire, out of school music centres, activities and ensembles for young people. Surrey Arts is the lead partner for the Cultural Education Partnership as well as leading on a range of arts and culture programmes across the county.

Surrey Arts allows you to have autonomy to deliver engaging and interactive music sessions to a variety of learners (children, adults, small groups and whole classes). You will have access to a network of 130+ peripatetic teachers, as well as a dedicated CPD week at the start of each academic year. Your lessons will be scheduled by a team of administrators and you will have support from an Area Manager.

    About the Role

You will use your music diploma/degree, or equivalent professional experience in the field of music production and technology, to teach a range of students through engaging lessons that offer challenge and independence appropriate to age and ability. Strong interpersonal skills will allow you to build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.

Using your passion for music, you will show a genuine desire to help all students express themselves musically through small group and whole class lessons. You will help students prepare for exams and be willing to learn specific music exam specifications. You will also be a point of contact for safeguarding, using your commitment for ensuring the welfare of students as the basis for this.

In this role you will travel around the county, showing flexibility due to changes in teaching schedules. The advertised salary is based on delivering small group music tuition. Should activities that attract a higher rate of pay be delivered, (e.g. whole class teaching or ensemble lead), the annual salary will be increased in accordance with Surrey Arts Teacher Pay Scales.

The hours advertised are correct at present but may be subject to change due to small fluctuations in demand. The annual salary will be adjusted accordingly to reflect actual hours worked.

Teaching takes place during the school day, after school and at the weekend, at various schools and music centres in Surrey.

    Shortlisting Criteria

To be considered for shortlisting for this position, your application will clearly answer the following questions:
