    Description

    The post holder will work in the Early Phase Clinical Trials Unit, which is part of the UniversityDepartment of Oncology and the Oncology and Haematology Directorate.The unit is involved in conductof a wide spectrum of cancer clinical research, predominantly phase I/II, including first in human.Clinical responsibilities include education of patients and colleagues, trial recruitment, co-ordination ofcare for patients on trials, collection and preparation of biological samples, collection of trial data andadministration of experimental agents.The post holder will be expected to develop specialist skills and knowledge relating to the conduct ofclinical trials, therapies and disease. Specialist knowledge of the oncology or haematology patients willbe beneficial.

    Main duties of the job What is research nursing all about?

    Working autonomously to support patients participating in cancer clinical trials
    • Taking part in decision making and planning patient care
    • Working flexibly to ensure that protocol requirements are met
    • Leading on specific trials allocated
    • Working with colleagues in multiple disciplines as directed by trial protocol
    • Attending trial initiation visits and investigator conferences

    We currently have an exciting opportunity for enthusiastic and motivated registered nurses who take pride in delivering high quality patient care to work in a specialist cancer early phase research setting. We are seeking registered nurses and will consider applicants from a variety of backgrounds and clinical settings who could bring their experiences and skills to our teams. Experience of working within clinical research would be an advantage although not essential as an extensive induction programme robust training and ongoing support will be provided to ensure your success in this role. Job description Job responsibilities Provide excellent professional and clinical care in the field of cancer research promoting the effectivedelivery of a high standard of nursing care for all trial patients and contributing to the development ofthe service, practice and individuals .Promote conduct of trial portfolio to the highest standard according to ICH-GCP principles.Maintain and continually develop specialist knowledge of nursing practice

    We are looking for highly motivated individuals with excellent communication, organisational and time management skills. These individuals should be team players, able to cope with pressure and have a flexible approach to their work. They will ensure that clinical studies are conducted according to ICH Good Clinical Practice Guidelines for Research, for which training will be given as required. They need to be proactive and able to work independently within the team to deliver a portfolio of both commercial and NIHR studies within deadlines to achieve given NIHR targets. Nurses who have oncology or haematology experience, are self-motivated and have an interest in clinical research are encouraged to apply.
