Basic Requirements:


  • Zoology degree/Biomedical Science or equivalent is needed
  • Registered Animal Technician (RAnTech) qualification advantageous
  • Named Animal Care and Welfare Officer training and qualifications
  • Member of IAT
  • Home Office Licence is essential
  • Good knowledge of ASPA
  • Experience in supervising and training of technical staff required
  • Knowledge in colony management/breeding (transgenic breeding programmes)
  • Flexible working approach/weekend work

Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Surgical support in anaesthesia, aseptic techniques, and containment of infection
  • Implementing health and safety procedures and SOPs as required
  • Responsible for regular audits, administration, recordkeeping, placing purchase orders and management of database
  • Accountable for equipment maintenance and reporting any facility faults/problems to the facility manager
  • Providing support and advice for technical staff
  • Contribute to the animal welfare and ethics welfare body by reviewing project licences and attending the AWERB
  • Delivering training to a range of various levels of staff
  • Responsible for policies and procedures while regarding safety, security, and personnel matters
