On behalf of our client, we are looking to recruit a full time Licenced Animal Technician who will be an essential member of the BSU team working with rodents.
The post holder will support in the operation needs of various research projects and work alongsidea team of technical staff to undertake experimental procedures and support the daily husbandry of animals.
Basic Requirements:
- Animal care or relevant qualification
- Experience of working in a rodent BSU facility
- PIL License holder A-B
- Excellent knowledge of rodent husbandry and breeding
- Possess an understanding of ASPA and associated HO guidance
- Experience working with students is desirable
- Able to work well in a team and independently
- Ability to work methodically to ensure accuracy in delivery of tasks
- Competent IT skills, well organised, excellent administrative skills with a flexible approach to work.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Husbandry and animal care of rodents in the Biological Service Units, ensuring the highest levels of animal welfare and culture of care at all times
- Actively use personal licence under the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986 including breeding of transgenic mice and a wide range of procedures
- Meticulous record keeping, such as animal and laboratory records both on paper and database systems and participate in internal audit processes to check adherence to recordkeeping systems
- Be involved in surgery support and postoperative care of rodents
- Be accountable to NACWO(s) and NVS regarding facility audits, animal care and direction of licence holders.
- Maintain and purchase consumables and equipment
- Adhere with H&S regulations and assist in H&S management under direction of the Lab Manager(s)
- Be a key member of staff who supports all administrative work such as procurement, record keeping and maintaining rotas
- Participate in the out of hours rota and be part of the oncall rota for emergencies.
