- Experience of working in a dispensary
- Experience of managing dispensary services in primary care

We are looking for a highly motivated, strategically minded, experienced Dispensary Manager to join our team at Upper Eden Medical Practice and lead our Dispensers. Participating in the daily tasks of dispensing in addition to managing, leading, and encouraging the team's ongoing growth.

Main duties of the job
To be responsible for ensuring the dispensary is well led and be responsible for the safe, accurate and efficient dispensing of medication to the entitled patient population, providing advice and support for both patients and colleagues at Upper Eden Medical Practice.
In addition, the post holder will be required to manage the dispensary staff and support the multi-disciplinary team in line with the strategic objectives of the practice.

Job descriptionJob responsibilities

Staff Management
Providementorship and guidance for trainee dispensary staff, apprentices and students.
Overseeingthe Dispensary teams annual leave, liaising with the Practice Manager whereappropriate.
Linemanages the dispensary staff in accordance with current practice policy.
Ensureteam members complete significant event forms correctly and in a timely manner.
Being anexpert in all aspects of the clinical system and be able to train other teammembers, in the best use of the system.
To beresponsible for the effective line management, appraisal, and development ofdispensary staff
Carryout appraisals and identify training needs based on competencies required forthe DSQS.
Tooversee training of new Dispensers.
To leadthe team of Dispensers and organise a weekly rota or deputise the latter asrequired.
To takeresponsibility for developing their own clinical competence, leadership, andreflective practice skills within the workplace
Arrangestaff meetings and / or training, as required.
Purchasing and Stock Control
Ensuringthat all returned controlled drugs are disposed of and recorded correctly.
Responsiblefor maintaining efficient, cost-effective stock control, minimising wastagethrough out-of-date stock.
Inconjunction with the Medicines Manager ensure controlled drugs are dispensedwith in accordance with practice policy.
To beresponsible for the commercial buying of drugs and Surgery sundries for thePractice.
Tomaintain cost effective supplies of those drugs that are purchased centrally onbehalf of the Practice.
Todevise and explain to each Dispenser the mechanisms for ordering from thecentral supplies.
Tocomplete the annual DSQS as required with the Medicines Manager.
Reconcileinvoices.
Ensureprescriptions are collated, endorsed, and submitted to NHSBA each month andassociated analysis.
Dispensary Management
With theMedicines Manager review the latest guidance, ensuring the dispensary conformsto NICE, CQC, etc. guidance.
Toliaise with the Lead GP and Medicines Manager for Dispensing over formularies.
EnsureSOPs are in place and reviewed on at least an annual basis.
To actas Health & Safety Committee Representative for the Dispensary.
Partakein audits as directed by the audit lead.
Toensure and maintain effective distribution of dispensing supplies to theSurgery.
To focusefforts to the maximum benefit of the Practice with respect to the policydecisions made from time to time by the Practice.
