Askham Bryan College is a specialist land-based college based across the North of England with centres in York, Middlesbrough, Saltaire, Wakefield and Newcastle.

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a dog school activities co-ordinator to join our dog school and boarding team here at our York campus.

We are looking for a highly motivated individual who is capable of working with others and is responsible, passionate and knowledgeable about the overall animal management sector and has an enthusiastic approach to animal husbandry and welfare.

Reporting to the Kennel and companion manager.

Responsibilities include the day-to-day care and management of the companion section, general cleaning, feeding, maintenance, record keeping of the animal species and supervising students on work placement.

Main Purpose of the role

  • To assist the organisation of the animal science and conservation department and overseeing the care and welfare of the animals under the direction of kennel and companion manager/duty manager.
  • To assist with the daytoday routine husbandry and maintenance duties for the companion, dogs, cats and pet animals as Askham Bryan college.
  • To assist in the running, growth and development of the commercial activities of the animal science and conservation department (Main focus companion section). Leading on the dog school socialising sessions, room hire and short courses, while developing and implementing other additional services.

Key Tasks / responsibilities:

All tasks to be carried out in a consistent manner with the corporation's culture.

  • Responsible for the daytoday care and welfare of animals and organisation of the animal science and conservation department under the direction of the kennel and companion manager/duty manager.
  • To carry out routine maintenance of the animal collection and assist with the development/maintenance of grounds, enclosures and buildings.
  • Liaise with the Curriculum team leader and members of the teaching staff to ensure that resources are available, and provision is made to meet the requirements of the curriculum.
  • Support the development of commercial activities to generate income and raise the profile of the companion section.
  • Responsible to produce display material and maintenance of accurate records within delegated area.
  • Supervise students whilst in the animal science and conservation department or out at partner sites and monitor and report duties.
  • Attend meetings, shows, events and open days etc., as required and contribute to various onsite activities and events.
  • Support the wider centre teams and facilities where deemed appropriate.
  • To undertake any other duties relevant to the post as directed by the kennel and companion manager/duty manager.
  • Cooperate in the College Appraisal Scheme and subsequently agree an Action Plan and implementation deadlines. Actively participate in selfdevelopment activities to facilitate continuous improvement
  • Support all management staff maintaining premises, the estate, resources and Centres by reporting problems; following and enforcing good behavioural practices in order that the working environment can be maintained in a cost effective and efficient manner. Be vigilant when on College or Centre premises, promoting security of buildings and contents
  • Support lecturing and Student Services staff in facilitating the best behaviour and performance of our learners, by challenging undesirable behaviour as appropriate and reporting more serious concerns to a relevant member of staff
