UCL's Advancement team is responsible for generating the university's philanthropic income. Having closed a successful £624m campaign in 2020, Advancement are now launching a £1bn fundraising campaign to celebrate the 200th anniversary of UCL in 2026. Diversifying income - including growing philanthropic income - is integral to UCL's financial strategy. Working closely with the Advancement team, this job is based in the central Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) team, reporting to the Head of Financial Strategy. About the role This new job has been created at a pivotal time for UCL as we prepare for the launch of our biggest institutional fundraising and engagement campaign to date. As the Deputy Head of Financial Strategy - Philanthropy and Endowments, you will play a key role in setting the foundations for the campaign, representing a career defining opportunity for the right candidate. You will:
    • Ensure alignment between Advancement's ambitions and UCL's wider financial strategy
    • Develop financial policies and recommendations in relation to philanthropy, ensuring are the partner of choice for our donors, whilst also empowering Faculties with consistent guidance.
    • Provide expertise and insight on the spend of endowed funds, making sure philanthropic funds are as impactful a possible
    • Lead financial planning for philanthropy, to shape and plan how we generate and account for philanthropic income.
    • Implement regular delivery of consistent management information, to track and report on expected performance.
    • Work collaboratively and effectively with colleagues in Finance and Advancement
    This role will be truly cross cutting, working with Senior Leadership across UCL, to support the growth of philanthropy as an increasingly important income stream to UCL. A full range of duties can be found on the attached job description. We plan to hold interviews on week commencing 24th June. About you For this job, we are looking for a fully qualified accountant with significant strategy and financial planning experience, ideally from within the fundraising sector. You must have a track record of providing strategic financial partnership to senior leaders, demonstrating ability to influence senior decision making. You must be able to demonstrate experience shaping and implementing financial policy, in addition to experience delivering financial analysis and reporting to senior non-finance stakeholders. Experience working in the HE and/or charities sector is desirable, but training and induction will be available for the right candidate looking to move into this sector.
