Daisy Chain is a well-known and established charity in the Tees Valley which provides specialist support to autistic children, young people, adults, and their families.

Daisy Chain is offering you the fantastic opportunity to join our thriving adult services team as a Community Empowerment Support Worker within our new service My Life, My Community.

The post holder will assist in the delivery of community based social groups for autistic and neurodivergent adults.

Working as a Community Empowerment Session Lead, you will play a key role in supporting neurodivergent individuals to gain friendships, confidence, and independence within community venues.


Hours-Multiple hours available, options are:

  • 5 hours per week (over x 1 day)
  • 10 hours per week (over x 2 days)
  • 15 hours per week (over x 3 days)
  • 20 hours per week (over x 4 days)
Salary-£20, pro rata to hours worked)


Key Tasks

  • Work with small groups of autistic and neurodivergent adults, empowering them to develop friendships, increase their independence skills, and participate positively and safely in communitybased social and recreational activities throughout the Tees Valley.
  • Support with the set up and delivery of group sessions.
  • Support with the delivery of bimonthly social mixers and annual celebration events.
  • Support Session Leads to consult with service users and gather their views, wishes and feelings.
  • Develop and maintain positive and supportive relationships with autistic children, young people and/or adults and their families.
  • Contribute towards the protection of individuals from abuse by adhering to Daisy Chains Child and At-Risk Adults Safeguarding policies at all times.
  • Ensure confidentiality is maintained and that Daisy Chains GDPR Policy is adhered to at all times.

Additional responsibilities:


  • Comply with the Charities Health and Safety policy in all employment practices.
  • Maintain the integrity of the Daisy Chain brand in all internal and external communications.
  • Maintain a proactive approach to your role and responsibilities along with a commitment to contribute and maintain the positive working ethos within the Charity.
  • Ensure attendance at staff meetings.
  • Undertake any training and development deemed necessary for the pursuance of the post.
  • Work in a way that contributes to the continuous improvement of the Charitys services and embraces the organisations quality initiatives.
  • Any other duties from time to time, commensurate with the level of the post.

Person Specification

Experience

  • Proven experience of working successfully with diverse individuals who may have complex needs. A, I & E
  • Experience of working with autistic and neurodivergent young people or adults. A, I & D
  • Experience of facilitating social/community groups for adults A, I & D

Qualifications

  • Level 2 qualification in childcare/education/health & social care or equivalent A&E

Knowledge & Skills

  • The ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with diverse staff and service users A, I & E
  • The ability to follow direction and use own initiative A, I & E
  • Knowledge & understanding of safeguarding A, I & D
  • Knowledge & understanding of autism & neurodiversity A, I & D
  • Knowledge of confidentiality and GDPR A, I & D

Other

  • Understanding of and commitment to the aims, ethos, and philosophy of Daisy Chain A, I & E
  • Ability and willingness to work evenings (weekly) A, I & E
