Location:

Reports to:
Designated Safeguarding Lead


Salary range:
£22,500 to £23,500 FTE pro rata for part time and term time only


Working hours:
Full time term time only or part-time working reduced hours but 5 days per week, term time only. PLEASE be aware our term dates DO NOT all full within the state school dates.


Full time staff will form part of the 'emergency on call' out of hours' team, being on a shared rota and covering hours outside the standard working week.

This includes bank holiday cover is paid in additional to the salary range being offered.


Role description
The Welfare Support (WS) role holds a instrumental role at Kings Oxford supporting the Designated Safeguarding Lead and welfare team in the care of our students


Covering the daily welfare duties, including interacting and caring for our students, administering medicines, attending medical appointments, supporting and dealing with attendance absence, student sickness.

Welcoming new students and completing the administration of medical information and GP registration.

To support students in growing in independence, strong mental health, feel secure and safe and flourish whilst studying at Kings


This compliance is in line with the National Minimum Standards for Boarding Schools and the Ofsted Common Assessment Framework and Standards for Inspection of Boarding and Residential Schools.

The SW contributes to the safeguarding and child protection, ensuring all needs are met and maintained.


Duties and Responsibilities:


  • To support Safeguarding and Child Protection of students, covering duties in line with our statutory and regulatory frameworks
  • Be proactive in promoting and safeguarding the welfare and wellbeing of Kings' students, supporting their individual needs.
  • Help to create a safe, welcoming and secure environment in which all students can flourish, make progress in their studies and develop their independence. Be proactive in ensuring students adapt to their new lifestyle, educational environments, homesickness, stress, adolescent emotions etc.
  • Support the induction of new students across all sites, working with the key staff member within the Academic, EFL and Accommodation Department. Completing the required and needed information from our students including collecting, processing and collating student's medical information for the DSL.
  • Being around and available for students during the school day, meeting with them responding and dealing with their needs, excelling in the care of students.
  • Take meeting minutes, create follow ups and actions under the direction of the DSL, sharing with members of the welfare support team.
  • Arranging GP visits, accompanying to hospitals, specialist appointments as/when required
  • Supporting the DSL in welfare duties and administration tasks to supporting the smooth running of this department.


It is understood that this role is likely to evolve over time and that relationships, responsibilities and duties are likely to change to reflect changes in the college.


Emergency on Call:
( full time post only)


Kings Oxford offers a 24-hour emergency facility to our students and cover is required during all periods of closure including bank holidays, Easter and Christmas period.

You will be required to be on the emergency on call covering hours outside the standard working week.

The number of emergency on call periods you must contribute to will depend on the number of staff on this rota.

Responsibilities are defined within the emergency on call job description as well as rates of pay, full training will be provided.

Applicants must be able to demonstrate:


Professional experience:


  • Minimum 2 years of experience working in a Welfare role, ideally Safeguarding trained

Personal attributes:


  • Personable, warm, friendly and approachable
  • Naturally caring with an appreciation of boundaries
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team

Formal qualifications:


  • Health and Social Care Diploma

Desirable attributes include:


  • Experience working within a multicultural environment.
  • Health and Social Care qualification or equivalent
  • Counselling qualification
