For September 2024, we are seeking to employ a drums and percussion teacher, on a self-employed basis, who would be interested in developing this aspect of our instrument provision within the school. Aside from individual lessons we would also like to develop co-curricular activities that would inspire music making though ensembles and workshops etc.

About us
Dr Challoner's has 1370 students, of which 450 are in the Sixth Form. It is regarded as one of the leading grammar schools in the country. As lead in the Teaching School Hub - Buckinghamshire we provide an exciting range of professional development opportunities.
Music is an integral part of the life of the school and enjoys strong support from staff and students. All boys receive class music lessons in Years 7-9 and from then on there are options to study GCSE and AS and A2 Level music. Two full-time music teachers are employed to deliver the music curriculum in the classroom. There are also several other members of staff who have musical expertise and who support the musical activities in the school in a practical way
About the role
For this VMT role, we currently have 6 hours of drum kit and percussion teaching and are in the process of taking applications from the new intake. Our outgoing teacher also runs a percussion ensemble which contributes to the school's busy calendar of musical events. Students are taught for 30 minutes per lesson individually, or in pairs depending on skill level. On this basis, we would probably be able to offer a minimum 6.5 hours teaching in the first instance with scope for expansion.

About you
You should have a graduate or diploma qualification in music, and experience of teaching students drums/percussion individually and in groups. Experience of directing ensembles and coaching chamber music would be desirable.
