Full time
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a permanent position of Immunisation co-ordinator for the Health Board. The Immunisation coordinator will be a source of expertise for professionals, the population and other stakeholders on all matters relating to Immunisation, providing highly specialist advice and second opinions and participating in the developing of standards and audit to underpin best practice, and evaluating new initiatives for Immunisation services. This role will involve working in partnership with key stakeholders to improve uptake of vaccines within our harder to reach communities, ensuring equitable access to vaccinations across the Health Board region.
Main duties of the job
Main duties of the post
The successful post holder will work with the Matron, Immunisation and Vaccination lead to implement key priorities, as outlined in the National Immunisation Framework. The Immunisation coordinator will work across primary, community and secondary care settings and maintain close working relationships with other departments and partner health service providers, particularly Public Health Wales, Occupational Health, Sexual Health services; General Practices, Schools, Child Health Department and Local Authorities.
The Immunisation coordinator will provide leadership, training and support for all immunisation programmes ensuring the Health Board has a skilled immunisation workforce in a range of vaccination programmes, which require different vaccination administration techniques. This is to ensure the continuation of our routine vaccination programmes, in addition to ensuring our immunisation workforce is prepared in the event we are required to support at pace, in the event of future outbreaks of disease.
In partnership with other stakeholders, the immunisation coordinator will identify areas of low immunisation uptake and develop strategies for improvement to ensure protection of our population against vaccine preventable diseases, reducing the inequality gaps for all immunisations.
Name of person to contact – Cath Watts, Head of Immunisation service
Working for our organisation
The post holder will develop high quality Immunisation and Vaccination services across the Health Board through the implementation of the Local Delivery Plan to achieve the Welsh Government's Annual Operating Framework Immunisation targets.
This work will be directed by the Director of Public Health who has the lead for Immunisation & Vaccination and will include working closely with Heads of Nursing, Senior Nurses, the General Medical Services (GMS) Team - Primary Care, Secondary Care, Independent Contractors, and Occupational Health and Primary/Community services.
The post holder will also be required to co-ordinate and provide training, provide specialist clinical advice, undertake clinical audit, and prepare reports for the Immunisation Committee and other formal meetings as identified by the Chair of the Health Board's Strategic and Operational immunisation groups
The post holder has significant autonomy to undertake this role, working within organisational and professional policies and procedures.
