    Description

    You will be joining a dedicated team who strive to give the best care possible to patients with a variety of respiratory conditions.

    Working hours for this role will be covered Monday to Friday.


    The multi-disciplinary respiratory team comprises 7 Consultant Physicians, a Lead Respiratory Nurse Specialist and 7 Respiratory Nurse Specialists, 2 Lung Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialists, a Clinical Specialist Respiratory Physiotherapist, 2 Treating Tobacco Dependence Specialist Advisors, a Respiratory Assistant, 2 Respiratory Physiologists, administrative and clerical support.

    Working as a clinical nurse specialist you will be responsible for your own clinic and management of patients with a variety of respiratory disorders.

    The clinics we run range from Obstructive Sleep Apnoea, COPD, Asthma, TB, Bronchiectasis and Pulmonary Fibrosis. Clinics are run either virtually by telephone/video or in some cases are run face to face.

    The clinical nurse specialists are responsible for their own clinics and management of patients with a variety of respiratory disorders.

    Nurse led clinics are run for assessment of patients with potential Obstructive Sleep Apnoea (OSA), triage of results, diagnosis of OSA and subsequent set up with Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) therapy.

    The service uses both basic and multi-channel oximetry and has remote monitoring facility on the CPAP devices. Clinics within the sleep service are run virtually either by video or telephone, with some face-to-face clinics.

    An Oxygen Therapy Service has been developed and both inpatients and outpatients are assessed for their oxygen needs. A general nurse led clinic includes assessment and treatment of patients with Tuberculosis, COPD, Bronchiectasis, Asthma, and Pulmonary Fibrosis.

    A Pulmonary Rehabilitation Service is currently in place coordinated by a specialist Respiratory Nurse.


    This includes support in terms of the organization of Community Teams to visit the patient, outpatient admission for insertion of the line and attendance for removal of the line with communication across both primary and secondary care.

    First level registered nurse (Active NMC Registration).

    The post holder will be a first level registered nurse with a minimum 3 years at Band 5 and have a demonstrated interest in Respiratory medicine.

    Knowledge of current issues in relation to nursing and health care eg NICE/BTS Guidance relating to respiratory disorders.

    Previous CNS experience, nursing Respiratory patients.
    Ability to work independently in the out-patient clinic setting and manage a caseload of patients.
