Subspecialty Trainee in Reproductive Medicine - Birmingham, United Kingdom - Birmingham Women's and Children's NHS Foundation Trust

    Default job background
    Fixed-Term
    Description

    Job summary

This is a training post equivalent to ST6+ level but can apply from ST5

This is a Sub-specialty post in Reproductive Medicine comprising 2 year training programme that comprises:

A clinical training programme which is competence based and the time needed to complete it will depend on your own abilities and the opportunities you have to complete the curriculum.

A research component of subspecialty training is to ensure you can design and execute a high-quality research study. If you've undertaken research before starting the subspecialty programme, this can be taken into account. A subspecialty research CiP generic to each SST has been included in the SST curricula. This builds on the research CiP from the core curriculum and brings the capabilities and knowledge requirements up to subspecialty level. However, completion of the Clinical Research APM/SIPM, a higher degree or 1st author papers prior to this post is also desirable.

The post will encompass training in all clinical aspects of Reproductive Medicine. These include:

    Reproductive Surgery

    Subfertility and Assisted Conception

    Reproductive Endocrinology

    Post Reproductive Health

    Paediatric and Adolescent Gynaecology

    Contraception and Termination

    Andrology

    Genetics

    Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will work in close co-operation with Consultants and Nursing staff within the fertility team. Participation in daily ward rounds, clinics and theatre sessions and weekly MDT meetings is expected. Other aspects of the post include teaching and audit and research projects, as well as modules related to the Subspecialty programme.

The successful candidate will work on a full shift rota including on call covering the labour ward and gynaecological services.

The post holder will be expected to assist covering duties in the fertility unit once trained in this sub speciality. This will include monitoring scans, review clinics, second tier fertility clinics, egg collections and embryo transfers. There is also an expectation of covering on call duties in general gynaecology and obstetrics and emergency cover. Attendance in theatre is required during the training programme and assistance during surgical procedures or independent practice is expected.
