An exciting opportunity has arisen for a registered nurse to join the Health Access Team for asylum seekers within Swansea Bay University Health Board.
The Health Access Team is a dynamic and innovative nurse led service. It was initially commissioned in 2001 and has evolved over time in response to asylum seekers complex needs and the policy context of service provision.
The Health Access Team provide a holistic, person centred approach in assessment of an individuals physical and emotional well-being, promotes healthy behaviours and delivers public health services. The team sign posts and refers to services, voluntary support and translated health information.
The Health Access Team act as advocate for individuals, and represent the needs of asylum seekers in a variety of strategic forums.
The Health Access Team promote a nurturing supportive environment to ensure Staff will thrive and reach their full potential within the service. Innovation and opportunities for professional development are encouraged within the confines of local, national and international policies.
Main duties of the job
Assessment of health needs including migration route, communicable diseases, non communicable diseases, mental health, sexual health, nutrition, dental health, maternity, child health and safeguarding. Use of interpreting services.
Vaccination of individuals with uncertain or unknown immunisation status including adults, over fives and unaccompanied asylum seeker children.
TB screening - Mantoux testing
Sign posting and referral to NHS primary and secondary care services
Partnership working with housing provider, statutory and voluntary organisations.
Support pre and post registrant nurses and other NHS professionals with learning opportunities for professional development.
Advocate for asylum seekers , promote equity in access to health care provision.
