Purpose of the Job:


To assist the Senior Accountant in the preparation of the monthly and annual accounts, supporting financial reports and periodic budgeting and forecasting within the specified deadlines.


Undertaking all accounting tasks accurately and effectively whilst maintaining excellent internal and external relationships and resolving any queries that may arise.

Providing management information as and when required and contributing towards the departmentalobjectives and targets whilst maintaining a professional approach at all times.

To deputise in the absence of the Financial Controller and Senior Accountant.


Main Duties/Responsibilities and Knowledge/Skills Requirements


The Accountant, working alongside and reporting to the Senior Accountant, will undertake various monthly tasks that contribute to the accurate financial reporting of the company.


These will include but are not limited to:

  • Responsibility for the accurate reporting, payment and audit of company VAT and bringing to the attention of the Financial Controller any instances of noncompliance.
  • Reconciliation, reporting and audit of stock, stock adjustments and relevant provisions, working alongside the commercial team in the identification of key risk areas and performance versus working capital targets.
  • Line management of the Assistant Accountant.
  • To oversee and review the responsibilities of the Assistant Accountant to ensure accurate reconciliation and reporting of Cash & Bank, Inter-Company, Debtors, Creditors, Customer Rebates, and employee expenses.
  • Preparation of the monthly prepayments.
  • Reconciliation of Balance sheet control accounts.
  • Monthly reconciliation, recording and settlement of Supplier Rebates.
  • Gross profit allocation and reconciliation of supplier contributions, dispensing doctor and other product specific rebates.
  • To support the Senior Accountant in the preparation of the weekly P&L forecast
  • To deputise for the Senior Accountant when required
  • Dealing with finance queries of senior stakeholders.
  • To work alongside the Senior Accountant on the preparation and review of the monthly management accounts.
  • Supporting the Senior Accountant in cost controls, preparing cost centre reports and attending monthly meetings with the cost centre owners.
  • Completion of Office of National Statistics surveys.
  • Preparing the financial information for the Executive monthly meetings.
  • Month end reporting to include preparing the working capital, CAPEX and stock analysis.
  • To work alongside the Senior Accountant and Financial Controller to undertake ad hoc accounting duties as and when required to include holiday cover.

Skills Requirements
Financial technical expertise at ACCA/ CIMA level (or equivalent practical experience)

  • Solid business partnering experience with proven communication, presentation and influencing skills with various stakeholders.
  • Ability to work flexibly, proactively and under pressure to meet deadlines
  • Strong computer literacy on Microsoft packages to include intermediate excel skills (pivots, lookups etc.)
  • Experienced user of SAP or a similar ERP system.
Up to £32.5k pro rata plus a 2k retention bonus on completion of the contract. 9-12 month maternity cover.
