    We are currently recruiting a Senior Product Manager in Technology & Data (T&D). The role encompasses responsibility for the entire lifecycle of allocated products within connectivity and data networks, ensuring that products are optimally managed to meet the ever-evolving needs of our organisation.

    TfL is currently investing in a new data networks both for public and operational use. These cover a whole range of connectivity technologies from LTE, 5G, Wi-Fi and TETRA to DWDM, MPLS and optical fibre networks.

    The scope of the Data networks team encompasses product families and services primarily within the Infrastructure Transformation space, including areas such as IT and Operational Technology connectivity, Wi-Fi, Data Centre Networking and much more.

    As a Senior Product Manager, you will join a highly collaborative and creative area of TfL Technology and Data (T&D). You will work closely with the wider T&D teams and external vendors to ensure that appropriate due diligence, analysis and planning is completed to both build and deliver robust, optimised and justifiable roadmaps, setting out the direction and investment required.
    The Senior Product Manager supports the Head of Data Networks in being the primary T&D interface with the other TfL business areas, ensuring relationships and products are strategically managed and aligned to T&D and larger organisational objectives and strategies.

    Key Accountabilities

  • Own, manage and maintain pan-TfL roadmaps for products that meet business needs in a cost effective and efficient manner and provide all necessary justification to secure investment
  • subject matter expertise input into product strategies and represent business area needs to ensure that T&D strategies are aligned with business strategy
  • Ensure their product roadmaps set out the capabilities required to deliver the agreed business outcomes and are well communicated.
  • Baseline and manage all associated cost elements related to products and provide this information in a transparent way to communicate the total costs of ownership (TCO) to all relevant stakeholders
  • Sponsor change initiatives for their products, in line with agreed investment plans, and represent the customer needs ensuring new and/or modified products deliver the required business outcomes
  • Own all product-related engagements within and between the department and the wider TfL stakeholder community ensuring stakeholders are adequately managed and clear direction is maintained for products

    Skills

  • Ability to systematically define and implement product development strategies and product roadmaps
  • Modelling, analysis and research skills; able to synthesize complex sources of information into clear concepts to inform decision making inc. defining total cost of ownership, whole life product costing and return on investment indicators
  • Ability to establish and document business needs and outcomes
  • Lead on the production of business cases and project initiation
  • Strong commercial acumen
  • Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to influence at senior levels
  • Strong planning and problem solving skills
  • A working knowledge of Transport Systems or knowledge of a related industry area is desired.
  • Higher level of technical development expertise
  • Strong communication skills

    • Knowledge

  • Educated to degree level or possess relevant equivalent professional experience
  • Necessary process and technical knowledge of connectivity and Data Networks to deliver fit for purpose connectivity solutions for use across the organisation.
  • Relevant legislation pertaining to information management within the Government/Public/Transport Sector – e.g. General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR)TfL's structure, strategic priorities and business objectives
  • Some knowledge of strategy and investment methods and an understanding of the information required to align portfolios to business goals
  • An understanding of project management and standard project management processes

    • Experience

  • Significant experience of leading multiple complex connectivity technology and data network products.
  • Strong experience of product ownership and management, Experience of working with end-users to sense and shape T&D needs towards meeting business needs
  • Experience in a business analysis / other related analysis role desirable
  • People leadership experience managing all aspects of connectivity product management.
  • Experience in a technical capacity desirable
