Avencia consulting is partnered with a commercial insurer seeking an AIR catastrophe modeller for their London office. This is an exciting role as its a first of its kind for this client.
The role
1.To drive an appropriate branch Catastrophe Modelling function. Working closely with home office 'Catastrophe Modelling' department.
- Support the branch in our ambition to provide market leading catastrophe analytics and control of our business.
- Contribute to the delivery of branch and home office systems, projects and activities in line with the Company's strategy and business plan
- To support the Head of Actuarial in developing the objectives for the function by providing sound advice and clearly communicated risks and assumptions
- To ensure that the relevant people receive timely and comprehensive MI.
Key accountabilities

Actuarial:
- Natcat modelling of Delegated Authority accounts via thirdparty vendor models (mainly Touchstone) and if applicable inhouse developed tools
- Natcat modelling of Single Risk portfolios and supporting the company Nat cat exposure system SPEX
- Upon request, SR account modelling (e.g. Olympic Games for Contingency)
- Advising underwriters regarding portfolio changes and impact on natcat results (scenario analysis, portfolio optimization etc)
- Contribution towards selected projects (infrastructure (e.g. SPEX), model validation, model development)
- Review and calculation of CAT loss ratios and premium projections used in the business planning cycle
- Responsible for ensuring documentation is completed for various reports, committees as required by the company for functional area
- Provide advice, recommendations and solutions to colleagues for projects that will assist in implementing the HDI Global Specialty strategy
- To provide timely and MI to Underwriting and Management to enable comprehensive Nat-Cat exposure management with respect to aggregate management and efficient capacity utilisation

Willingness to closely cooperate with team in Hannover, working on the same agreed standards, processes and systems

Frequent/regular travel to Hannover to meet modelling colleagues
2.Risk Management
- Design, implement and maintain process controls to ensure the quality of the output of the function. Ensure documentation of the processes and output is accurate, uptodate and accessible
3.Compliance and Conduct
- Maintain an understanding of and comply with all relevant FCA / PRA / Company regulatory requirements and other relevant regulatory requirements
4.Reporting
- Design, deliver, analyse and critically review reports providing necessary commentary, insights and findings and where necessary take appropriate action
5.Process Improvement
- Identify and enhance the quality and value of processes across the function
- Report any existing or new risks, as well as significant control failings/weaknesses or events that may arise to the head of function.
6.Project Management
- Oversee and deliver functional projects and contribute to any Branch/group wide projects
Skills & experience
- Communication Skills

Experience of MI production

Experienced user in software relevant to cat modelling preferably AIR Touchstone

Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel and VBA for excel
- Experience in natcat modelling of worldwide property and specialty business via third party vendor models, preferably AIR Touchstone
- Experience of London market specialty business
