Press Officervacancy based in
Kent with flexible working.
- £33,939 per annum (Flexibility of up to £38,775 p/a based on experience) + contributory pension scheme

  • Core daytime hours Monday
  • Friday (Between the hours of 7am and 5.30pm)
  • Shift allowance for on call or if agreed to working weekend
  • Strict police vetting will be conducted

Role purpose:


  • An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Kent Police's press office, working in a key team at the heart of some of the most sensitive, serious and complex issues affecting the people and communities of Kent.
  • As a press officer you will be working with officers and staff from across the force to help prevent and detect crime and disorder. This is a vital role in a vibrant, innovative and busy department and you will be responsible for ensuring that accurate,appropriate and timely information is provided to the public about the force.
  • The team works flexibly with some home working available.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are a must; a good understanding of policing locally and national is desirable.
  • This opportunity would suit a highly motivated and dynamic individual who is able to demonstrate consistently strong decisionmaking, integrity, and professionalism. You should be comfortable providing media advice to officers and staff of all ranks oncomplex and serious issues and dealing with journalists in what can be a highly pressurised environment.

Skills required to be successful:


  • A strong background in operational press office environment or journalism.
  • Policing or public sector knowledge would be beneficial.
  • Excellent written communication skills.
  • Experienced in social media.
  • Interviewing experience.
  • Decisionmaking and leading change.
  • The ability to interpret data accurately and use within context to write proactive communications.
  • Risk management and crisis management experience.
  • Information gathering and analysis.
