    Camden and Islington Personality Disorder Service- Therapies Team Manager- Practitioner Psychologist

    This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and motivated Practitioner Psychologist to lead the psychological provision within a specialist personality disorder service. The service offers Mentalisation Based Treatment (MBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and Dynamic Interpersonal Therapy for Personality Disorder (DIT).

    This suitable candidate will offer leadership within a supportive, reflective and motivated team, committed to working compassionately with people with difficultiescharacterised under the umbrella of 'personality disorder'. The post will be part of the service leadership team and will work closely with the psychology lead for complex emotional needs and head of mood services to ensure the delivery of a high quality, accessible, and inclusive psychological service.

    We are looking for someone who is keen to embrace the privileges of working in a diverse borough and has experience of working with people with complex mental health difficulties, specifically personality disorder from a range of religious, cultural and ethnic backgrounds. We are particularly keen to attract people from our local communities.

    Main duties of the job The main duty of the role is to provide effective clinical leadership and management within the Therapies Team, including the provision of clinical supervision and line. The post holder will be an integral member of both the therapies team and senior leadership of the personality disorder and will work alongside the Psychology Lead for Complex Emotional Needs and the Head of Mood Service to ensure the safe, effective and high-quality service.

    The role will include clinical duties including assessment, formulation and treatment to service-users. The role will also involve screening referrals to the service, liaising with referrers and communicating referral decisions to service-users and those within their network. Consultation to professionals within a service user's network will be a key duty.     In order to meet the needs of the new Partnership services you may be required from time to time to work at different locations to your normal place of work. This may mean that you are required to work at any location that fall under Barnet, Enfield and Harringay Trust and Camden and Islington Trust. The Trust reserves the right to require staff to work at such other places or locations as it considers reasonable and necessary on a temporary or permanent basis. Job description Job responsibilities We are looking for a skilled, experienced and reflective practitioner psychologist. The ideal candidate will have previously worked within a service which offers MBT and/or DBT and have experience of assessment, individual and group components of the therapies. Experience in clinical supervision and leadership are essential.Main responsibilities will include:

    To lead the therapies team to take part in the triage function of the service, providing consultation, information and advice to service users and partners as well as allocation of new work in the service to appropriate MDT colleagues.

    To provide professional and clinical supervision of junior psychologists, trainee clinical and counselling psychologists and assistant psychologists.

    To ensure line management, appraisals to staff within the therapies team and ensuring opportunities for continued professional development.

    Lead on and collaborate with others of research clinical audits and service evaluations ensuring practice meets best professional and evidence-based standards.

    To lead on psychological assessments of referred clients, using interview, formal psychometric and other assessment methods as appropriate.

    To formulate and devise psychological treatment and management plans for referred clients with a range of problems of severity and complexity, including those with challenging behaviours, and to provide psychological treatment for such clients, using a range of psychological interventions appropriate to the service.

    To liaise with other health and social care staff, from a range of agencies, in the care provided to clients.

    To provide teaching and training as required both within the Organisation and externally. Person Specification Qualifications Essential
    • Doctoral level qualification in clinical or counselling psychology as accredited by the British Psychological Society, or British Psychological Society Statement of Equivalence.
    • Current registration with the Health & Care Professions Council as a Practitioner Psychologist
    • Post graduate training in at least one of the following, DBT or MBT.
    • Evidence of continuing professional development as required by the Health Professions Council and British Psychological Society
    Desirable
    • Formal training in leadership and management skills.
    • Accredited by the relevant training organisation as an accredited supervisor in either MBT, DBT
    Skills/ Abilities Essential
    • Skills in the use of a range of methods of psychological assessment (including psychometric tests), intervention and management for the full range of problems of severity and complexity presented in adult mental health, including challenging behaviours.
    • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with clients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS.
    • Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups.
    • Ability to form good working relationships with others in a multidisciplinary setting.
    • Ability to teach and train others, using a variety of multi-media materials suitable for presentations within public, professional and academic settings
    • Ability to identify and employ mechanisms of clinical governance as appropriate, to support and maintain clinical practice.
    • Interest and ability to contribute to service development.
    Experience Essential
    • Experience of psychological assessment and treatment of clients across the full range of care settings, including community, primary care, outpatient and inpatient settings.
    • Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course and presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity.
    • Substantial post-qualification experience working with service users whose difficulties can be understood as Personality Disorder.
    • Knowledge and understanding of the presentation of complex mental health problems and personality disorders.
    • Experience of facilitating psychodynamic groups.
    • Experience of the application of clinical psychology/psychological therapy in different cultural contexts.
    • Experience of the management of practitioner qualified and/or psychological therapy staff.
    • Doctoral level knowledge of research methodology, research design and data analysis as practiced within the clinical fields of psychology
    • Knowledge of legislation in relation to the client group and mental health.
    Personal Qualities Essential
    • Ability to maintain a capacity to mentalise in challenging situations e.g. when working with people experiencing high levels of distress, confusion or anger.
    Other requirements Essential
    • Ability to move between different levels of context in a single day: e.g. offering a clinical service to very different service user groups experiencing a wide variety of serious difficulties switching between clinical work, supervision, consultation, teaching, strategic thinking and planning and able to conceptualise at the highest level in order to assist colleagues.
