Aasiya Fazal

Just over four years ago, my experience as an intern with the UX/UI team at Cancer Research reignited an interest in Design which I had not pursued since University. At the time, I had already committed to the NHS Leadership Scheme commencing straight after the internship, but I didn’t want to close the door on a UX/UI career, therefore, I embarked on a part time course. 

It has been over a year since I left my operational job within the NHS. In this year, I have successfully completed the UX / UI course, Agile Project Management qualifications and a Scrum certification. Each project involved designing cross platform apps across mobile, tablet and desktop. I have also designed and developed my own website from scratch using HTML, CSS and Javascript. The above has involved every part of the design process including: user research, user journey mapping, wireframing, producing style guides, visual design, prototyping and user testing. In addition, developing my own website has given me an appreciation for designing with accessibility in mind and ensuring that my designs take into account complexities and constraints experienced by developers.

I believe this role is a great fit for me, as not only do I have a UI/UX design skillset but so much more. I have project management, service design, data analysis, web development, leadership, mentoring and technology consulting experience; this will enable me to bring a holistic, unique approach to my work and adapt effortlessly to challenges faced. Furthermore, I went through the NHS Leadership Scheme which at its core was all about keeping individuals and communities at the centre of designing and improving services, therefore I feel that I have the user centred focus which is so integral to this role.
