About aisha mouhout:
I’m an aspiring biomedical scientist with a special interest in microbiology, haematology and pathology.
Originally for Cornwall, I chose to study biomedical science at Queen Mary University of London in order to benefit from a Russell group university, expand my knowledge of medical science and experience current research. I was awarded a first-class honours degree.
As part of my final year, I was able to join ongoing research, experiencing first-hand the application of the scientific theory attained in my lectures. My research was focused E. Coli and the impact of the pyrF, rtcA and RNAse genes on bacterial growth ability. This research gave me experience carrying out techniques such as PCR, bacterial transductions and cell culturing ultimately consolidating my passion for practical laboratory work.
Experience
I have completed a final year research project which has provided me with laboratory experience and the necessary skills to perform a wide range of laboratory procedures accurately and efficiently. My project focused on Escherichia coli and involved creating mutants with genetic deletions before assessing their growth in differing media. Skills I developed here include pipette use, PCR, Centrifuge use, cell culture and safe handling of bacteria. Additionally, I was able to utilise Microsoft Excel in order to analyse data and create growth curves.
Whilst I do not have any past formal employment, I spent many years assisting in the care of an elderly relative with dementia. During this time I developed a strong compassion for others, patience, and time management skills. I understand fully the importance of being reliable and I believe that being a young carer has instilled in me resilience, adaptability, and the ability to work under pressure, making me a dependable and dedicated team member.
Education
I have recently completed my degree in Biomedical Science from Queen Mary University of London and was awarded a First class honours degree on the 25th of July. Throughout my studies, I have gained a solid foundation in various areas of medical laboratory science, including genetics, histology, microbiology, and immunology.
