About Archie Still:

I’m a second year student studying BSc Games Technology at the University of the West of England. I have experience in coding C++, C# with Unity, Python and 3D modelling in Maya because of my course, and am interested in being an indie developer for video games as a career in future.

Experience

Pilgrims English Language Courses: 10/07/23 - 06/08/23

Over the summer, I worked as programme staff at Pilgrims, a summer camp for international students to learn English. I was brought on not only to help out around the course but to teach basic game design in Unity and coding, helping the students build a basic 2D platformer as well as building my experience in mentoring and teaching game design.

Peer Assisted Learning: 13/09/23 - Present

As a second year at UWE, I’ve taken the part-time job as a PAL facilitator, assisting first year students with modules and assignments that we also had in first year. Not only does it allow me to build on my mentoring experience from Pilgrims, but it allows me to see problems I’ve tackled in before different ways, building my programming experience.

Playtesting for ‘YIIK I.V’: 01/11/23 - Present

I applied to and was selected to playtest the upcoming I.V expansion update for the indie game YIIK: A Postmodern RPG by Ackk Studios. While not a paid job and entirely voluntary, it’s allowed me to more confidently playtest games, properly detail any bugs found during testing and give appropriate feedback as a player in a way that a developer can more easily act upon.

Education

University of the West of England: 09/2022 - 06/2026

I’m currently In my second year of a Bachelor of Science d grew in Games Technology, excelling in modules such as Games in C++, where we learn how to code and develop games using the SFML library for C++, which I acquired a First for, and Game Development Evolution, where we learned about the full game design and pitching process in theory and, later in the year, in practice. It is a subject I am very passionate about and I’m always looking for ways to improve my skills with game design.

Hereford Sixth Form College: 09/2020 - 07/2022

I studied Cyber Security and Games Development, which I left Sixth Form with a Distinction grade for, as well as having studied English Language (C grade) and Media Production (Merit grade). I also took part in an Extended Project essay (C grade), which allowed me to hone my skills in time management and being able to discuss video games academically, as that was the subject of my essay.
