About Ben Brear:

I am highly experienced and passionate in science and technology, and so the application of such passions in a professional capacity would be ideal. I have spent my educational career focusing on STEM subjects, culminating in a Physics degree in which I achieved a 2:1 with Honours, as a result I am very confident in my ability in mathematics, problem solving, logic and the scientific method. I have also undergone 3 years of study in the computer programming language Python, with an additional module of Matlab, and am happy applying the aforementioned abilities in a coding eenvironment. To be able to apply my passion for Physics in a fulfilling job such as this would be a great source of pride for me.

I am comfortable in a key decision-making role that includes the overseeing of contributing individuals and am confident and clear in my portrayal of information, this includes presentations, report writing and operating key lines of communication. Examples of this include when I was selected by my team members to lead and present an engineering project during a weeklong engineering course at Exeter University as well as numerous reports produced throughout my educational career, including in the areas of Physics as well as in humanities and persuasive essays.

On top of this, I am experienced and confident in organising people to work together to achieve a task, whether that be in a scientific environment or otherwise. A further example of my experience in this would be while operating as a lifeguard team to manage the safety of thousands of people at centre parcs. I was able to develop my teamwork skills while supporting the team and the chain of command. This helped during my degree when I worked as a team member in continuous weekly project collaborations.

It is my ability in problem solving that will ensure that the pace my professional development corresponds with the progressive development of modern technologies. This is because I have extensively learnt the foundations of solving any issue and I have the capabilities and dedication to see any task through. When I led our team to victory in the Rotary technology tournament Bletchley Park in which we were tasked with designing a motorised zip line vehicle prototype, we were successful because my design and approach was unlike any other team's, not just because it was efficient and effective. I ensured it was our team that fulfilled the brief better than any other and it was this that was a major contributing factor to our success. Additionally, I will endeavour to immerse myself in this role by enrolling on training courses or attending seminars to ensure that this problem-solving approach and professional ability remains current and as highly capable as possible.
