 Previous Work Experience:

September 2023 - Present                                                                  Tridonic, Spennymoor, UK

As part of my UTC college course, I am required to complete a minimum of three hundred and fifteen hours in industry. I reached out to Tridonic who offered me a weekly placement at their Spennymoor facility. Tridonic manufacture emergency light systems with a sister company next door called Thorn Lighting part of the Zumtobel group.

·        Bench test units following production by hand and in the soak chamber.

·        Can support sections of manufacturing line particularly the sensors department.

·        Work as part of a team to understand the day's workload and how we can reach target.

·        Handle a certain level of customer returns ensuring certain metrics are maintained

·        I have completed my Electrical Insulation & Isolation qualification, allowing me to mitigate risks providing a safe working environment.

·        Complete basic warehousing processes such as packing, put away and label creation.

·        Communicate and escalate issues and where additional support is needed to complete tasks and hit production quality targets.

·        Finally learning to work and provide input into a large team, understanding my role in the organisation.

April 2023                                                                  Atandahua Guaranda, Bolívar Ecuador/Turing scheme

·        During April 2023 on a government funded school trip me a select group of students had been invited to go on a two-week volunteering trip in rural Ecuador helping build and design house renovations for impoverished families in the area in hopes they can use our help to help boost their income and subsequently their quality of life, this trip was truly life changing it completely altered our perspective on the world and gave us a real insight into how these families live and how we as individuals, and as a community we can make the world a better place for all. This trip taught me the importance of perseverance and respect as in the high mountains everything was harder and more exhausting however despite this, we still pushed towards our goal regardless of the obstacles in the way of our vision.

July 2022                                                                                                         Jacobs Engineering/National Highways UK-

·        This was my second work placement in civil engineering this time with National Highways UK but I was hosted by Jacobs in the office and allowed access to mentors to aid my work throughout the week.

·        The task at hand was to design, budget, and “build" a road connecting 2 motorways in the most effective, efficient, and quickest way possible, whilst also taking into consideration the material type, cost, and supplier packages available.

·        We also had to consider surroundings such as the wildlife the village, and an area of scientific interest and so making sure pollution and the disturbance of the environment was at an absolute minimum.

·        After we had created our solution, it was then our job to present, I happily obliged to present much of the content as my teammate was uncomfortable doing so. We received positive feedback regarding our presentation skills and our unique and creative solution. From this experience, I learned to collaborate as well as reflect on my actions to see how I could do better next time.

 April 2022                                                                                                                                         Bentley Motors Limited-

·        During my insight day with Bentley motors, I learned the importance of teamwork and collaboration and how different roles come together to create a final product/result.

·        I also learned why communication is so important when creating custom/bespoke pieces for customers such as a Bentley car

April 2021                                                                                                                              Jacobs Engineering

·        Over the autumn half term, I volunteered to do work experience with Jacob’s, a large civil engineering incorporation. The work experience consisted of a large array of gamified tasks to keep the work fun and engaging however the tasks were still informative and useful

·         The tasks helped us as learners and students to communicate and collaborate effectively whilst also helping to develop our problem-solving skills.

·        Each day we were split into groups and asked to create a presentation on the learnings of the day. On the day of the presentation, the team was having technical difficulties and/or was uncomfortable presenting to the group, myself included however I realised that something needed to be done and I stepped up and presented myself, this pushed me out of my comfort zone. The presentation received very good feedback and the judges were satisfied with mine and my team's work. Following this placement, I was offered mentorship to support and guide me through my career.
