About David Koch:

My career to date has been mainly spent in the armed forces and in the offshore oil and gas industry, although I did start my career in a supermarket in a customer facing work environment.

I am 56 years old.

I left paid employment in 2022 and moved to the north east of England to look after my father.

I have now relocated back to Elgin, and I am very much looking forward and ready to start a new career within the rail industry. I live just minutes away from Elgin train station.

I believe I have a great work ethic, a friendly and approachable manner, and all the necessary and vital skills that will enable me to be a valuable and successful member of the ScotRail team.

My time in the armed forces has instilled me with many qualities including productivity, reliability, trustworthiness, dedication, loyalty, a can-do attitude, punctuality, cleanliness, and a willingness to help others.

I strongly believe in doing a good job to the best of my ability.

My time offshore has also given me a very strong understanding of health and safety at work, working by myself or collaborating with others to complete tasks in a timely and cost effective method.

I have developed a good business acumen - for instance, I appreciate and understand that I must bring added value to the company, and I must not waste resources.

I am able to work any days of the week, and I am very familiar with working extended hours during a work shift.

In my leisure time, I very much like travelling - I have previously visited many countries, either in a working capacity or for holiday reasons.

I am passionate about sports and keep fit, and I am often to be found most days at the local gym.

I also like entertaining and socialising with family and friends.

The above is just a very small snapshot of my work experience and interests, to give you an idea of the type of person I am and character I have.

I will be pleased to provide more information if I am lucky enough to be selected for further interest in the position.

In the meantime, I wish you a good day and very best wishes.

Kind regards,

David.

Experience

During my college years, I started work at a supermarket working part-time stacking shelves, operating the checkout etc. Shortly after this, I was offered a full time role as a shop floor supervisor. I carried out this role until I joined the Royal Air Force in 1998.

I trained as an aircraft electrical technician, and I have worked on many aircraft types on many RAF bases.

My last posting was to RAF Lossiemouth where I was employed as a supervisor of a team of engineers carrying out scheduled maintenance, testing, fault finding, repair, rectification, and modifications on the Tornado GR4 aircraft electrical systems.

I left the air force in 2006, and started work as an instrument engineer for an offshore oil and gas company called Offshore Hydrocarbon Mapping.

Offshore Hydrocarbon Mapping was an exploration company that carried out electromagnetic surveys for oil clients to locate hydrocarbons in deep seas worldwide.

I was employed to prepare, maintain, rectify, test, and deploy offshore equipment ( receivers and high voltage source equipment ) , and to download the recovered data ready to send to the office geologists for further scrutiny.

In 2011, Offshore Hydrocarbon Mapping  was bought out by a Norwegian company called ElectroMagnetic GeoServices ( EMGS ), and I was transferred over to this company.

EMGS is the benchmark for electromagnetic exploration.

In essence, my daily tasks were the same as before the takeover, but I had to learn new management systems, new processes,  and familiarise myself with the new receiver and high voltage source equipment that EMGS operated.

In 2022, I carried out my last offshore trip with EMGS, and I moved back to the north east of England to help look after my father who was becoming frail. I was with him until March 2024.

In March 2024, I relocated back to Elgin.

Education

I have an ONC in aeronautical electrical engineering.

I have a BTEC in Basic Engineering.

I have ‘O’ levels in Maths, English Language, Physics, Chemistry, and Craft and Design.
