Dean Burke

I have strong analytical skills, as well as precise time management, communication skills and a high level of attention to detail. During my career, I regularly conducted self-directed lab-based work, developing the ability to self-motivate, solve problems and work with minimal supervision. I am looking for a role that challenges me and allows me to work creatively, further expanding on the skills and the knowledge I gained thus far. 

Currently as a research and development  work largely independently on multiple different projects, largely focused on profiling changes to the human lipidome, where I am solely responsible for the development of new LC-MS experimental methods, as well as the optimisation of existing protocols and their subsequent implementation. I also have previous experience using both LC-MS and ICP-MS to analyse biological matrixes to assist pharmaceutical development

During my time at Newcastle University in both my undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, I developed a holistic, systems thinking approach to understanding biological systems. I developed my ability to uncover, articulate and present scientific findings across a range of complex biological systems. 

I led several self-directed research projects, such as  molecular evolution of reef corals using a range of different DNA markers, with DNA sequence analysis and phylogenetic reconstruction using FinchTV AND MEGA7. . I also worked with ELISA, microbial cultures, DNA transformation and PCR.
