About Derek Clarke:

A summary of my working life. My father was a bricklayer, so as a child I used to work weekends with him, which led me to decide to become a bricklayer.
I served my time with a local firm, then became self-employed at 20 yrs of age, and worked in the construction industry for 32 yrs.
I had to retire from construction in 2006 because of health reasons, so I decided to be a brickwork tutor. I feel I have good knowledge of the building industry, and wanted to help young people to be able to make their way into construction.
I have been a brickwork and construction tutor, delivering up to level 3 in city and guilds, and also worked as a prison tutor and city and guilds assessor.
For the last few years, I have been doing various part time tasks, as this allowed me to attend clinic appointment that needed to attend.
With the experience gained working in the education sector, and the construction industry. I feel that I have the customer service skills for this roll. I am flexible and adaptable to working in different environments, and have gained administration skills from my various rolls.
I feel with my experience that I now have excellent and proven communication skills across written and spoken, and am able to work in any area that would be required, and to make sure the service required is attained to the highest standard possible.
