About Emma Woodward:

I am currently a support worker for SAMH specialising in mental health support work. My previous post was a Well-being and Activities Coordinator for 9 men in active addiction with the company Rowan Alba.

Experience

I am an experienced support and community engagement professional with a background that spans health and social care, fundraising, and management. In my current role as a Support Worker with SAMH, I provide direct support to individuals living with mental health challenges, carrying out risk assessments, de-escalation, and advocacy to promote wellbeing and independence. Previously, I worked as a Well-being and Activities Coordinator for Rowan Alba, where I developed and delivered creative and therapeutic activities for men in active addiction, encouraging participation, community connection, and personal growth.

Earlier in my career, I held senior management roles in the fundraising sector, overseeing regional teams across Scotland and building partnerships with major charities. This experience gave me strong skills in leadership, data-driven performance management, and motivating diverse teams. Combined with my qualifications in Health and Social Care, counselling, and trauma-informed practice, I bring a blend of empathy, creativity, and organisational expertise to every role.

Education

I hold an SVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care (Edinburgh College, 2024), which has given me a strong foundation in delivering professional care, safeguarding, and supporting individuals with complex needs. Alongside this, I have completed a Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills (West College Scotland, 2023), equipping me with active listening, communication, and person-centred support techniques. I have also undertaken specialist training, including Trauma-Informed Practice (Level 4, 2023) and Reducing Conflict & Breakaway Techniques (2024), ensuring I can work safely and effectively in challenging situations.

Earlier in my education, I pursued my creative interests through a Diploma of Higher Education in Drama Performance & Musical Theatre Performance (University of Cumbria, 2015) and a BTEC National Diploma in Musical Theatre (Norwich City College, 2012). This performing arts background has enhanced my creativity, confidence, and communication skills, which I now bring into my work in social care and community engagement.
